not killed as such.....more just led them down the wrong path.
not killed as such.....more just led them down the wrong path.
More like Blizzard made a good game and a bunch of mediocre developers tried to ape it.

I agree with this guy - Blizzard created a supposedly winning formula that everyone wanted a piece of, but it's really poison, it doesn't actually work. It's boring.
Same thing happened to COD. Then the devs ended up milking it too.
It's not just CoD, it's many, many games since the beginning of gaming itself. Pong clones, Mario clones, Quake clones, Battlefield clones, GTA Clones, etc. One game always dominates the entire industry, causing everyone to make clones of it, until the next Half-Life rolls around which resets everything.
I don't think they necessarily killed a genre, its understandable from a business point of view that they would like the game to become more accessible and welcoming for new people. In my eyes though WoW is still the best quality MMO of its kind out there, it plays very smooth, its very nice on the eyes and, well it just works. As far as the actual game goes its extremely well crafted compared to most others, that being said what he highlighted is true, the game has basically turned into more 'What can we add to be the next timewaster?' rather than challenging. I'm in the beta for Firefall and I would recommend it...It goes open beta soon and its actually starting to shape up really well; it has changed massively in the last few patches (Like, basically how the entire game works), there isnt a massive amount of content right now but they have laid the groundwork for expanding the game world into whatever or wherever they want and still have it make sense story wise. If you were a hardcore WoW player then the other one to look out for is Wildstar, its the first MMO that I have played that actually controls as well as WoW combat and movement wise, and they have some really great ideas on making it a good game.
