Alright FP'ers, so here's my two cents: Earlier today i was just minding my own business, when i notice a spam mail in my inbox. I think no more of it and nearly toss it in the trash bin, only to find it's from myself. Then, i found out some of (Maybe all, i don't know) my contacts had received the same E-mail, again, from me. It seems it sends the E-mail to every second person in my list of contacts, with every other second person in the CC field. This really creeps me out, as i am definitely not the kind of person that naively gives out his E-mail address to anyone. Help is greatly appreciated, please only leave serious, educated replies. On a final note, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong section.
you're part of a botnet
Okay, so if i got anything right, the attack is controlling my computer, NOt my mail-account? Could not using internet on this computer temp fix the problem? [editline]11th August 2011[/editline] i.e. stop it from sending more [editline]11th August 2011[/editline] Okay, I'm fairly certain what's caused this. Typing popular websites wrong in the address bar sometimes sends you to a malicious site, that redirects you to all sorts of shit, hopefully without you noticing. Must've been how they got me. Any thoughts on how to put an end to it?
In gmail check the past logins in the bottom right, click 'details' and see if any of them are out of the ordinary (probably china), it's happened to me before. Just change your password.
i think so. botnets aren't my forte, so you might want to wait for a second opinion.
Changed password, running virus scan, hoping for the best. Thanks, guys.
Also, consider two step verification. I do that on 3 of my gmail accounts. For me I use a app on my phone that gives me a code ontop of knowing the password.
