• Difference between "i" series and core 2 quad processors?

I'm not an expert on computers, so I don't exactly understand the difference between the "i" series processors (i3, i5, i7) and the core 2 quad processors, both by intel. Is the performance any different between the 2?
The "i" series are the latest from Intel, and are more work efficient than their competitive CPU models in the Intel family
The "i" series are the latest from Intel, and are more work efficient than their competitive CPU models in the Intel family
But both have 4 cores, right?
i3's have 2 cores i7 is quad core with hyperthreading
and i5's just have quad core with no hyperthreading.
Okay, check this out. The Core i7 920 (the i7's baseline model) performs on par with the Core 2 Quad Extreme (that at the time cost $999). That's how bitching the i's are. http://forums.techpowerup.com/showpost.php?p=1039622&postcount=1 ^Benches and such
What socket type are the i# processors? I haven't been following this stuff for a few years.
Depends on which i. i7-9xx uses LGA 1366 i7-8xx uses LGA 1156
Depends on which i. i7-9xx uses LGA 1366 i7-8xx uses LGA 1156
And everything under that (i5 / i3) also use LGA 1156. Also note that the Core i5 750 is the only quad-core i5 (no hyper threading though), while the Core i5 6xx are duo cores (don't know about ht, but I think they have it).
