• Would this be a good laptop for school?

So I've been wanting a laptop to take to school with me. My parents said yes I could get one as a gift and it is looking like the budget is around 1000 USD. So would this thing be fast at using applications and doing a little bit of a video editing? Or could you recommend another one if you believe there is a better choice?
Zenbooks are awesome. Way overkill for what you want though.

I would suggest the samsung series 9, I have it and love it. Same battery life, but it has a backlit keyboard. Little smaller resolution though. Wait for the ivy bridge UB's come out. The new samsung is sleek, same resolution as the asus, and the HD4000 gpu is much better than the HD3000. I have my ultrabook for college and love it to death. At 3 pounds, you can't even tell it's in your backpack. http://www.engadget.com/2012/05/02/samsung-teases-series-9-ivy-bridge-ultrabook/

Also for the zenbook, Would I be able to run world of tanks with 45+ FPS on at least low settings? And when does ivy bridge come out?
What are you doing at school that will require such huge amounts of power anyway?
What are you doing at school that will require such huge amounts of power anyway?
It's not exclusively for school, I will use it at home quite a bit for a little bit of gaming.
HD4000 is quite capable, not too sure if it's performance differs between cpu to cpu. http://www.anandtech.com/show/5771/the-intel-ivy-bridge-core-i7-3770k-review/14
if you wait little bit till it comes to the us store, you can get a dell inspiron 15r special edition for around $900 comes with a aluminium body i7 ivy bridge quad core at 2.2ghz 6gb of ram hd 7730M 2GB 1TB hdd

I say you get something you aren't afraid to drop. Unless you plan on impressing the ladies :/ the fobs at the uni I go to love guys with ricer computers. Roll in there with an Alienware glowing like a thousand suns and you're set... :/

Almost every review for the asus say that its very durable. And I would be planning on the extended warranty. And for that dell laptop, 15 inches is too big for me. And i've had shit experiences with dell.
meh, fobs i tell you. They won't talk to guys unless the guy looks like he drives a Nissan GTR.
I'd say go for the zenbook. I'd like a little more upgrade capability but that's just me.
