My real-life friend is writing some crappy fanfic about something and he wanted to use this symbol for whatever reason. He swears he's seen it before and I think it looks kinda familiar but I can't quite place it. The only thing I have conclusively determined is that it is not the Greek letter Psi. Anybody have any ideas?

It looks like Doofenshmurtz in your avatar going, "whoop whoop".
Looks almost familiar to me. The only thing I can think of is that it looks a lot like the symbol for sacrifice in the Slender Man Mythos.

My friends never heard of slender man, and I asked him if this could be from that and he said no. He still could have seen it out of context, however.
Did a reverse image search and found nothing but irrelevant pictures of people's grandmothers and pants.

Well then obviously its the symbol for grandmother pants.
Greek letter Psi (Ψ, ψ)?

It is also very similarly in Cyrillic (Russian script): Ѱ, ѱ

Not at all.
Looks like an Eldar Rune, but a quick check of all known runes doesn't show it.
looks like a funky pogo stick
Looks like one of those Homestuck things.
EDIT: I looked it up, it's not homestuck. This is now the shittiest post ever.

Ah shit sorry
It's a [sp]spoiler[/sp].
Looks like a broken Trident... maybe Neptune or something?
Well, it's just a symbol that has no meaning (yet). Also if you draw a nazi swastika, it doesn't mean you are a nazi, it shouldn't be taken seriously, so you don't need to worry about using any symbol.

An etheric oil; an oil that evaporates easily. That, or a form of wax. The symbol is mostly used in alchemy and chemistry
(as close as I could get)

Nice, I'll show that to my friend next time he's on Steam.
Alright, he said that it looks very similar, and that he was going to use it for something alchemy related anyway, so it looks like we have a winner. Although I have no idea where he would have seen it in the first place.
