Actually LG was first on that boat iirc, but yeah no one's gonna copy LG unless they want to lose money.

Also the fact that 3rd party manufacturers will have to pay a fee to Apple to use their lightning port.

So you have to carry around an additional bit of cord and you also can't charge your device while using the headphones without a splitter (if there even is such a thing). All of which could have been avoided by adding another plug.

IIRC, removing the headphone jack also makes it easier to waterproof the phone, and I think it has a pretty good rating. It's like 3 feet under water for 30 minutes or something?
But I'd rather listen to music than browse under the water.
