• My Laptop Isn't Running Games as well as it Should be!

Earlier, I created a thread thinking that it was only GTA4 that was running badly on my laptop, but now I have found that all games are not running as good as they should be. For example, When looking at benchmarks they say I should be able to run hl2 EP2 maxed out easily, but I can only run it on medium with around 30-40fps. The card is a Radeon 5650 and my GPU is a quad core @ 2.1GHZ. More information about my laptop is here: [url]http://speccy.piriform.com/results/Q...ePLC1LS3mmE8kZ[/url] Sorry about the new thread but I think it was necessary.
That's definitely weird, while the 5650M isn't the best card ever it should easily be able to max any source game. Considering you're getting similar FPS in EP2 to fucking GTAIV I'd say there's something wrong. Start by checking your temps and uninstalling bloatware.
All the bloatware was uninstalled when I first had the laptop, I can't check the temps right now, but I've come across something. It seems I would be able to overclock my GPU, not by much of course. [editline]29th October 2011[/editline] Just found out my GPU has been underclocked the whole time! (Fuck you, Acer) Im getting more like 80fps where I was getting 40 on Ep2 on medium, Im going to try it on high now! [editline]29th October 2011[/editline] I found out the default clock speed was 100 when it should be 450! Now I've overlocked it to 650 (People say it runs fine at this speed, and it does) Now I can fully max out hl2 EP2 with 60 fpss which is much better than what I was on which was medium with 30fps! I'm so happy, I was thinking my laptop was a waste of money then.
Maybe this is the power settings being very silly. I know that navigating catalyst is like the Minotaur's labyrinth but see if you can find and tweak any power settings. Do the same for windows and any acer shitware.
I can run Dead space 2 on very high, before I could only manage Medium! And in this Catalyst Control Center I'm on the gaming settings, do I go for performance or quality? Or do I just leave it as it is?
If you're getting a good frame rate you shouldn't change it.
I put the AA mode up earlier, made fuck all difference to my game, but caused my fps to be 1/3 of what it usualy is, I changed it back instantly.
