I bought a new computer yesterday and it is very slow. I'm running Windows XP x64 Edition. It usually freezes a couple of seconds and it lags when i scroll in Firefox. And i can't install new Service Packs

Wow, i expected seing a shitty old Dell. :|
That is strange...
A processor like that with 6gb of ram shouldn't be slow. It's as if you have a virus or a program that is draining alot of your computers oomph. Hit control alt delete and see what your CPU usage is.
Can it be Windows that makes it slow with only Service Pack 1? My CPU usage is between 0-5%
You did remember to upgrade your drivers right?
I'm pretty sure a 64 bit version of windows XP can't utilize 6GB of Ram?

Of course it can, that's why it's 64 bit.
In Win7 the performance is like it should be but since i'm running 64-bit Win7, my Ralink Wireless LAN Card driver makes Windows crash every 30 minute.
Have you ensured you've installed graphics drivers?
And i can't install new Service Packs
Why not?
Have you ensured you've installed graphics drivers?
It was the first thing i did.
Why not?
When i do and it restarts, i still got Service Pack 1
No, but you could have a virus or something due to not upgrading that is making your PC run slow.
I installed XP 6 hours ago. And i haven't downloaded anything that isn't real.
Very strange, mind due, it can't be as worse as a P2 with 128mb of ram and a TNT2 GPU >.>
When i can use cable to the internet i'll switch back to Windows 7 64-bit.
Windows 7 doesn't lag at all. Just problems with my network card that crashes the whole thing.
Why in gods name are you using XP?
Windows usually does stuff like you describe when it doesn't have proper drivers installed. I had the stuttering problem once several years ago and it turned up originating from using generic MS SATA controller drivers instead of those from the manufacturer.

Did you just only read the OP and do a drive by posting? Seriously, the reason he uses XP is the post RIGHT ABOVE YOURS.
The only reason I can think of why it's so slow, is because you're using a large ammount of IDE drives.
IDE is already slow, and if you add multiple drives, the cable's speed gets split in half, meaning it gets even slower.
Though that could only be for load times.
Sure your installed drivers are up-to-date, and that there excists proper drivers for such an old OS?

yeah i kinda did.
woops

Doesn't change the fact that XP is pretty oldschool, and paring it up with newer hardware won't have as good support for it as a newer OS has.

Your thinking of x86 (32 bit) which can only use 3gb of ram... 64bit has a limit too.. but it's something ridiculously high (you could find the exact limit on google).
I'm pretty sure 64-bit supports up to 128GB RAM, so that can certainly not be the problem... But I've heard XP 64-bit should have a lot of bugs and such, maybe it's interferring with your graphic drivers and some other software for your new parts? Know this ain't much help, but I really haven't known/seen anybody have this problem before, in any case when their specs is so good..
id just take it back get my money back save yourself a headache and build one yourself.

Hm, tried different drivers for wireless?
You have your DDR3 set at 667Mhz, why?
You have your DDR3 set at 667Mhz, why?
1333mhz
1333mhz
From where are you getting that
1333mhz is the mobo standard, on the OP it says otherwise
I had Windows XP x64 for a while, it's based more off Windows Server, so it doesn't use the service packs that the 32 bit version use. It also gets different updates. I don't remember being it slow, it was actually kind of snappy.

OP's mobo is recommended only 2 IDE devises

That's how DDR works
also unban me from ccof

If that's true I need to get updated

Unbanned
I just bought a 30M long CAT6 cable and i got Win7 64-bit installed and the problem is almost gone. No crashes but a bit slow. I'm running 1 IDE drive, but i'm using a SATA drive for my OS. I am planning to sell the IDE drive to someone in my class for 10$.
Do you have your monitor cable plugged into the gpu or the motherboard?
That is a thinker.
A registry cleaner might help, I can't for the life of me remember what the good one is called.
Driver sweeper that wireless card also anything else you might think could cause it.
