I Currently own a Pentium D 820, which cant run bfbc2, so I want to upgrade it, here are my mobo specs: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00864946&lc=en&dlc=es&cc=es&lang=es&product=3462595 My mobo will only take the E6xxx or the E4xxx series cpus, so the question is, are these cpus any good? I would really appreciate your comments on this since I really don't want to build a new computer just to play this game.
LOL, i run bad company 2 on my pentium d @ 3.4 Ghz with a 9400gt it runs at 20 FPS :P But i actually got used to it because i know that the gameplay is rape, and this is beta =).
You should be able to put this one in there but I am not entirely sure. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115056 If not go with this one. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116347

Because dual cores in general are better for gaming. They have higher clock speeds and are generally cheaper.
Why not quad instead?
Check my mobo specs, there you can see why I cant really take quad core.
Because dual cores in general are better for gaming. They have higher clock speeds and are generally cheaper.
I hope you are not being serious
Because dual cores in general are better for gaming. They have higher clock speeds and are generally cheaper.
Are you kidding?
I think he has the right idea, because games didnt used to support quad cores, but now they do so, NO.
the newer dual cores aren't half bad, I was just playing GTA IV on my i3 530 & 4770 rig and it was looking fine and running great. I'd save up for a 1156 build (i3 or i5 7XX)
Check your chipsets. Alot of older 775's do not support newer processors. My old 775 had a p4 in it, but didn't support anything past pentium D

Post your motherboard's model number.
I'm not a computer guy but I have a 5 year old LGA 775 motherboard, currently with a P4 in it. If I were to get a Q9400 Quad Core, will I be able to fit it into the board or does it depend on the model I have? Shit never mind, I can't put anything in higher than Celeron D.
Post your motherboard's model number.
Here is all the info you need on my mobo.
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00864946&lc=en&dlc=es&cc=es&lang=es&product=3462595

Here is all the info you need on my mobo.
* Core 2 Duo E6x00 * Core 2 Duo E4x00 * Pentium D 9x0 Dual Core * Pentium D 8xx Dual Core * Pentium 4 6x1 series * Celeron D 3xx series You can support those. Not much. No quad core for you. It's probably not worth it, but then again I am not familiar with the Core 2 duo performance benchmarks.
il just save up for new build then...
It depends on the board, I had a 775 board with a 3.4 GHz P4 in it which didn't support a dual core. Now I have a 775 machine with an E7500, which can support quads, though the quads are insanely expensive. If you really want a new MB + RAM + CPU, I would give AMD a look, since they have some decently priced quads.
I was looking into getting an am3 micro atx mobo with athlon ii 260 (quad core @ 2.6 ghz).
I built a PC for my friend who wanted to get into PC gaming and got him a ASUS M4A785TD-M, some CORSAIR XMS3 RAM. They work really well, I wish I got him a quad though :(

The 955, or something around the 920 area is well worth the money. I picked it up on a combo deal when it was AMD's best back in jule for 214 USD on newegg.

AAAAhhhhh maybe i can upgrade to e6700?
I've got an e7200 and It's pretty good. If you got an aftermarket fan you could really overclock it. [editline]04:34PM[/editline] I also have an ati 5770 and I run bfbc2 on medium/high with ok framerates for the time being, considering its still beta.
The bfbc2 beta is just a ps3 port. Once the full game comes out it will run a LOT better.
The bfbc2 beta is just a ps3 port. Once the full game comes out it will run a LOT better.
Yeah, thats what I'm hoping. Im trying to show OP that the e7200 is a good processor.
His motherboard isn't compatible with the 7xxx series or higher. OP what graphics card do you have?

Somebody should check if his motherboard can support newer CPUs with a BIOS update. I know that's the case with some of the AMD boards.
