Xbox one controller > dualshock 4 any day of the week.
Xbox one controller > dualshock 4 any day of the week.
How so?
How so?
Dualshock has always been a bit too small. I also much prefer the layout the xbox controller has. Using the new white one and my friends dualshock 4 for extended periods of time, I found myself more comfortable with the xbox one controller (especially since it now has the grip on the back). I preferred the sticks and the triggers mainly. I felt I could also be more precise with the one controller since the design is more comfortable than dualshock for me. Dualshock also has the light on the head and that touch pad that I really don't see the practicality of. Plus its quite ugly imo. After awhile of use with the dualshock 4, my thumbs tend to hurt a bit.
Different strokes for different folks, I guess. I don't have an XBO controller so I can't really judge its quality or ergonomics - all I have is my PS4 controller, so that's what I use and i'm fine with it.
Somethings smells to me like a Sony-Valve colab Steam Link on the PS4 maybe??
Xbox one controller > dualshock 4 any day of the week.
ps4 controller's touchpad can be used as a mouse checkmate
Xbox one controller > dualshock 4 any day of the week.
both are good
Dualshock 4 with Xbox One thumbsticks is the true controller.
I have an Xbone controller, I have a DS4, I have a steam controller. Well, I can't say I'm not happy about that. I can play more couch co-op games now without even using InputMapper. Sweet.
Somethings smells to me like a Sony-Valve colab Steam Link on the PS4 maybe??
Sounds more like they're trying to get other developers integrate the steam controller API into their games. Until now there wasn't much reason to do so when way more players had xbox controllers than steam controllers, now you can use it with pretty much any controller.
Dualshock 4 with Xbox One thumbsticks is the true controller.
THIS Once i can get some spare xbone controller sticks im so much replacing the crappy ds4 ones
i was torn with my ds4 at first, i didnt like the small thumbsticks on it and it felt oddly too long but it became so natural to me that when i did start using my xbox controller again for pc gaming, i couldnt stand it. I went back to my ds4 almost immediately cause i found it so much more responsive and useful, doubly so when i put on gel caps on the thumbsticks to make em larger. My ds4 is broken in many ways and i still prefer it over my perfectly fine xbox controller.
FYI they said they'd be adding full configurability for all major controllers. I think they just used Dualshock as an example because it's coming first.
Xbox one controller > dualshock 4 any day of the week.
I run away from Xbox controllers due to their flimsiness. Also the DS4 is way larger than the DS3 and 2.
I run away from Xbox controllers due to their flimsiness. Also the DS4 is way larger than the DS3 and 2.
Xbone controller is very sturdy, though triggers take some getting used to.
What does this mean for the end user? Will pre-existing games work with the DS4 or is this more of an existing Steam controller supported games and future games kind of thing?
Probably future games or have the games automatically map to the DS4 controller with a steam built mapper program.
What does this mean for the end user? Just like with the Steam Controller, you'll be able to rebind actions to button presses, analog sticks, triggers, touchpad stuff, gyros and whatever else the DS4 has that I've forgotten about. It will (presumably) also automatically use proper glyphs in-game for button prompts. Note that not all games that the Steam Controller supports use the Steam Controller API. For many games, the Steam Controller goes into legacy mode and acts like a mouse/keyboard/gamepad, and instead of telling the game "the user wants to do the JUMP action", it says "the user has pressed SPACEBAR", emulating the behavior of older devices. For those games, you'll have to configure it to use the DS4 manually, and it almost certainly won't support the touchpad or gyro.

So I don't have to use, say, x360ce?
But we can configure it through Stream? So I don't have to use, say, x360ce?
If it uses the Steam Controller API, configuration is done within Steam (with the game being able to pop up that dialog in the overlay when you click the options menu). Edit: There's a feature I missed - the DS4 will be able to act like the Steam Controller's legacy mode. So even for non-API games, it will be configured through Steam. This is what it looks like when configuring a DS4 to a game that does NOT use the Steam Controller API. A game like that would still display the "wrong" glyphs in button prompts but you could do things like bind the gyro to a virtual joystick to reconfigure the controls.
I've always preferred Xbox controllers considering they seem to fit my hands better, but any full controller support is awesome.
Did anyone find that Xbox One controllers felt REAAAALLY flimsy and light compared to the Xbox 360 ones? I bought one for my PC and I feel like I'm going to break it whenever I use it.
For those games, you'll have to configure it to use the DS4 manually, and it almost certainly won't support the touchpad or gyro.
The touchpad and gyro on the DS4 will be handled the same way as with the Steam Controller. If you look at the screenshot in the link, you'll notice that the config splits the touchpad into two smaller touchpads. You can view the slides and read a transcript of the talk where this was announced here.

DS4Windows adds functionality to everything by making the PC treat it like an x360 controller, which is already generally supported, but official support is good too
DS4Windows adds functionality to everything by making the PC treat it like an x360 controller, which is already generally supported, but official support is good too
I'd assume with steam integration, you'll also have the benefit of configurations being distributed through the steam community, alongside the official ones which may be distributed on the same platform
I'd love it if Steam just took input from it and converted it to xinput directly, making it work system-wide, not just for Steam games but for everything like DS4Windows does
Somethings smells to me like a Sony-Valve colab Steam Link on the PS4 maybe??
Not really, anyone can implement dualshock 4 support, that's why dualshock 4 is a DirectInput device instead of whatever the ps3 one was.
