I thought the plan was to make this API work across any vid card?
I thought the plan was to make this API work across any vid card?
I thought this too I really hope they dont change their minds..
Well, that's pretty impressive. I just hope it's not going to be too difficult to implement this into other games later down the line.
I thought the plan was to make this API work across any vid card?
IIRC Nvidia just have to implement it in their drivers.
The patch was released and its pretty much screwed over the game. Sounds kind of a lottery now as far as I can tell and some rounds you get it others not.
I thought the plan was to make this API work across any vid card?
Its open source so Nvidia can implement it if they want, AMD aren't going to do the work making drivers for Nvidia cards.
IIRC Nvidia just have to implement it in their drivers.
But I thought Nvidia had it's own high performance api for developers to use.
IIRC Nvidia just have to implement it in their drivers.
It's not that simple. Mantle is very low-level and most likely has AMD specific stuff that can't be implemented or wouldn't make sense on Nvidia cards. Either way, Nvidia has had its own API for a long time.
oh it works with 7xxx series, that is great. it is too bad i have no interest in bf4 or literally any other military shooter
IIRC Nvidia just have to implement it in their drivers.
Ok that explains it
NVAPI is nothing like Mantle. NVAPI is for very specific tasks that are all GPU related, but none of them are related to rendering. For instance, NVAPI can give you control over how the application deals with multiple monitors, or it can give you tighter SLI control, but it can't draw a triangle. It's meant as a toolkit for largely OS-related tasks, not for rendering.
So this means it will not work with my 6950 amd card?... I first read they said 6xxx series or up.. what the fuck..
Yeah to bad it will not work for you, from day one AMD only says HD 7000 and up. So best to upgrade.

I believe it's exclusive to AMD HD7xxx and newer cards
oh it works with 7xxx series, that is great. it is too bad i have no interest in bf4 or literally any other military shooter
Im told it doesnt specifically work with the 7970's yet, not sure if true.
so this will not work with my 8570?
Hopefully if this is actually working and good then nvidia will start putting driver support for Mantle as well Sadly Mantle will be DOA if its exclusive to AMD cards, simply because thats exactly why PhysX is delegated to only being a neat parlor trick these days vs. something widely used, despite it being touted as game-changing when it first came out. And games made in the future must use DirectX, and have it run good on DirectX anyways if Mantle ends up being something you can only use with high end AMD cards because otherwise a huge chunk of the market can't play your game. Which largely will make mantle kind of pointless (performance improvements that are unnecessary anyways when the game is made with DirectX in mind, therefore doesn't include tech that would pretty much require mantle in order to run smooth). Mantle being open source is comforting in keeping it so it avoids a PhysX situation where its never used because its tied to specific hardware - but hopefully nvidia aren't dicks about it. Especially since I just ordered a 760 :v:

So is this eventually going to be expanded for performance boosts in other games, or is it just for BF4? [editline]31st January 2014[/editline] And will it also be compatible with HD 7xxxM series for laptop users?
