That sounds like quite the substantial portion of the game being locked away as DLC/pre-order bonus.
And now the descent of a seemingly good zombie game begins.
I guess the title is pretty soon going to refer to the state of people's interest in this game with stuff like this
I'd lose it if the devs blamed poor sales on anything other than their bad decisions if this keeps up.
To be honest I hate player-controlled zombies vs survivors. I prefer facing against just really good AI which is hard to come by. However, if it worked like Resident Evil 6's PvP, where you can jump into someone's singleplayer game (so as long as they have that option enabled) I could really dig it. So if that's the case then fuck this.
I can understand, say, holding a multiplayer mode back due to it being unfinished by the time of planned launch.. But making this pre-order DLC? What the hell is Techland smoking?
"Lets cut a WHOLE GAMEMODE from the game and sell it only to pre orders" I want some of whatever the shit they are smoking
Begins? Have you been around for the last few years?
There are both very good, and equally terrible zombie games. Left 4 Dead, Project Zomboid, and The Last of Us stand out as very good games. These are because they focus on fun and dynamic gameplay, as well as an independent and compelling story. DayZ was the tipping point, as every other game since then has just been late sloppy attempts to get in on the gold rush which do not even have any new ideas. Everything is just some iteration of the same 'Zombie Survival Sandbox' formula, or some Minecraft clone. Each using unoriginal 'special' zombies that are obvious and unimaginative imitations of Left 4 Dead monsters, purely because they refuse to spend any time inventing a new gameplay device.

I mean, sure, some people liked it, but generally the game disappointed the hype. A well-recognized trailer that was actually pretty dark led into a game that's essentially Dead Rising mixed with Far Cry. Tried taking itself seriously in the story, but then you leap up to a zombie and punt it across a clearing before hacking another down with an electrified machete as numbers and point totals fly all over the place. Not to mention the glitchy mess it was at release. Riptide was just another disappointment as a standalone expansion billed as a sequel, that adds another character and boats that have poor QTEs slapped on. The base game may be tolerable, but I just don't see why slapping fancy graphics, parkour and the night 'stealth' system onto what looks like Dead Island 2 proper, should suddenly turn my opinion around and make me give a damn when Techland's just not been shoveling very much actual quality out in regards to this. And even worse, Dead Island MOBA. Or 'ZOMBA', as they're trying to bill it. I wouldn't say the zombie industry is sucked dry of any possible quality, if The Last of Us (which, in itself, isn't solely focused on the 'zombies' as it were) is anything to go by. It's just that it's such an easy market to exploit right now, just like how Call of Duty and all of its various clones cropped up after CoD4 and its sequels established their blockbuster success.
I knew about Dead Island long before DayZ came out, too. I also remember seeing a tech demo of the amazing character damage system where skin, muscle, and other tissue are layered over a skull, only to have them completely ditch it over an effortless alternative. Dead Island + Riptide is very much a game where you will frustrate yourself into a state of confused rage, purely over how stupid the characters act and how nonsensical the plot is. As for the MOBA they are doing, I am not even going to spend any energy to keep track of it. There are plenty of other zombie games of recent which I can't even bother to remember (and I don't want to start a fight with fanboys). Both with a cliché title and stereotypical same-old gameplay. Their primary goal is to 'have a game with zombies'. They expect this to be all that is needed to fill a game, and design the game with a mortgaged intention over sensibility and story, failing to understand that this strategy only creates a terrible game that was a waste of the developer's and player's time. Games such as The Last of Us are what shows that there is still life to the zombie genre. It shows that it is required to have a sensible production plan, and developers that don't purely focus on the "Zombies!" idea, and rather use that as an environmental factor for a fully thought-out story. It is disheartening to see so many cash-grab games like this, when there are very strong examples of it done right.
I really hate this It's like Metro Last Light's hold out on Ranger mode which was literally meant to be the way to play the game this shit better not keep happening

Yep, I knew Techland was going to fuck this up as soon as I found out they were making it.
I may be rated dumb for that but i honestly think being the zombie looks kinda boring, i'd rather be the survivor.
90% or more of preorder bonuses the last few years have all been released as paid dlc. Still dumb, but it's not like people wont have the option to play it.
