everyones losing their shit over this, it's fucking hilarious
kinda warrented though, the WoD team is utter rubbish lmao
WoD, where lore comes to die.
My only response: :(
It's a good idea gameplay wise, especially on realms with heavily favored battlegrounds
didnt they remove battlegroups etc and just mash everyone with people from same language realms?
I dont understand how this is a bad thing?

It kind of diminishes the value of two different factions, wouldn't you say? That and it pretty much shits on the lore; I mean I understand that the gameplay benefits from it, but I still don't really like it.
Well to be honest I really liked Warcraft's lore and then the whole World of Warcraft happened, now it's just fucked.
If the lore made any sense at this point, the factions would stop fighting each other like they were suppose to after Panda Land
I remember talking to a friend on my school bus several years ago about ideas to make the game better, and he said something similar to this along with being able to talk to the other faction and defect like in EQ2. I told that dude it'd never happen, but here we are.
I feel like this kind of thing was only inevitable after faction changes became more common and restriction was removed on PvP servers. Everyone has characters on both factions at this point, and the whole "faction pride" thing is kind of in the past for most players.

Know what else diminishes the value of two different factions? When one completely steamrolls the other due to population imbalance.
Also who cares about lore when it comes to PvP anyway? It's not like you're going to see Orcs fighting for the Alliance, Horde players will temporarily become an Alliance race and vice versa.

Really, they should have stopped fighting after TBC
I mean, demons and shit are a little bit more of a pressing matter

Well Sargeras is still in the air.
But they won't stop because WoW makes alot of money. Can't just stop WoW because the fans think it isn't working these days.
They could make an orc have a human illusion and the other way around so no one knows who could be mixed in if they care about lore that much.

except it's starting to lose money because a fair few people are unsubscribing. i wouldn't be surprised if the next subscriber report is around 4-5 million
It's only Ashran and Unrated BGs, keep your pants on. Here what they said about it:

Few points of clarification based on some discussion we've been seeing around the interwebs:
On racials: The current intention is that the system swaps your race entirely, including your racial ability. We recognize that that puts Humans in a weird spot, so we're looking into some options there that aren't "spend your Honor/Conquest on a Medallion."
Only the faction that is currently experiencing a long queue will have the option to act as a Mercenary, and only when those queues reach a certain point (which is still being determined). In the current environment, we expect that to generally be Alliance. Since queues have to reach that threshold before Mercenary Mode becomes available, we don't anticipate an increase in Horde queue times.
Using the Mercenary Mode system is completely opt-in. It's important to us that if you don't choose to participate in Mercenary Mode, it doesn't affect you. Should you be grouped with players who are using the system, they will not be identified to you as mercenaries -- they'll look like just another player from your faction.
Similarly, it's important to note that these are not creating "mixed-faction" scenarios. There will be no Humans fighting alongside Orcs. Again, our intent is that you are completely unaware that the person next to you is secretly a Night Elf.
We don't consider Mercenary Mode to be a replacement for racial balance. We just also don't think that perfectly balanced racials would instantly resolve queue time issues. We also don't think that players should feel forced to faction transfer (potentially away from friends and guildmates) in order to experience reasonable queue times.
The picture in the blog is of one of the NPCs that Alliance players can speak to to activate Mercenary Mode for Battlegrounds. Players who are using Mercenary Mode won't just be wearing a Hallow's End mask, lol.
Ultimately, this system's sole purpose is to help resolve the issue where heavy tilts in faction populations can result in excessively long queue times for unrated PvP content.
Can I queue with my friends that are on horde this way or no?
No. Again, it's only intended to alleviate queue times.[/QUOTE]
I haven't played since the beginning of Cataclysm, but I can only laugh at the lore concerns. I would gladly have had that feature back then instead of having to wait +30 minutes for certain battlegrounds to start.
That "disguise" looks fucking ridiculous. I never played wow but oh man those look dumb yet hilarious.
"Using the Mercenary Mode system is completely opt-in. "
The most important line for all the people who suddenly care about lore

That's exactly what they're doing, it's right there in the article.

Ah, forgive my ignorance, maybe I missed something in the article that explained that?
