Eh, looks fun, but I've always preferred the 3D Mario titles. They tend to be way more innovative, particularly Super Mario 64.
Why the boost mode? Sure, I can see the casual gamer approach, but at this rate they might as well just make a "finish the level for me" button.

why make time trial modes?
Why make any gamemode that requires you to move through a level as fast as you can?
[sp]Because super fast playthroughs are fun[/sp]
anyways, Polygon.com is the only site i listen to, and they sum it up well
That's really what separates New Super Mario Bros. U from its "New" predecessors: It adds something to the Mario formula. It's exciting and full of inventive ideas. Until now, the New Super Mario Bros. games have been a fun but mostly mindless reminder of how great Mario was back on the NES or SNES.
New Super Mario Bros. U actually feels like it's from that era. It's where the series would have gone next if the transition to 3D had never happened, and it feels great to be back on that track.
God, that name is awkward to say.
They should've called it "Super Mario Wacky Worlds"
I really want to try this out, I really liked New Super Mario Bros Wii

Or Super Mario November 2012 (oh lordy, such high-brow satire in my post)
It's weird, really. What people claim to be a good return to form for Mario is meant to be a system-seller, yet the only feature that fully utilizes the Wii-U.. Is making platforms for other players to use. You'd think they would've shoehorned more features in like they did with Wii games, but then that'd probably drag the game down.
Wow this got better reviews than I thought, will pick it up surely

Personally, every time I play a Mario Sidescroller I try and speedrun levels anyway. So I'm really excited about boost rush.
What gives this reviewer any credibility at all. I doubt this game is any better than the other super mario games. It uses way too many ideas off the original 2d mario games.
for those wondering about challenge mode, apparently it's really hard.

Asuke - Yeah. But it's no good if no one can clear it, so we tried not to make it too difficult. Takemoto But the testers at Nintendo of America did say, "We can't clear this!" (laughs)
Iwata - Oh, the lineup of master testers in America waved the white flag?
Asuke - Yeah. We got an email saying, "Can this really be cleared?"
Iwata - They thought it was a mistake in game design.
Takemoto - Yeah. So I sent a video to America proving that it can be cleared.
Asuke - Then the next day we got a reply saying, "Sorry. We did it." (laughs)
Iwata - Oh, so it wasn't a skill problem.
could have called it "MariiU"
I read it in the most racist, stereotypical japanese way possible because of the u after bros

Maybe they are keeping it light on the controller screen stuff so that you can play it entirely on the controller without losing any functionality.
