Overkill has damaged their reputation forever, nobody is going to trust a liar anymore
How are weapon skins pay to win? Did they author mean something else besides just cosmetics in saying paid weapon skins? He mentions how it "throws the game balance" and I can't imagine how cosmetics would do that.

They give you extra stats on the guns depending on the skin, its not purely cosmetic
Ah, thanks

Because they are not just cosmetics, the weapons from the safes have better stats.
EDIT: Ninja'd
Uh... to add something: Doesn't help that they nerfed many weapons at the same time they start to sell more powerful guns.
Sorry, but microtransactions in paid games still aren't okay. Take them out completely or I'm not interested, personally.

Idk, there are microtransactions in CS:GO and I frankly don't give any fucks because the implementation is so good

The skin economy increased CSGO's popularity though

In that case it's absolutely fine because they're just skins. Having cosmetics affect stats is crazy unfair even in a COOP game.

Valve didn't attempt to give skins stat boosts. Even if Valve is greedy as fuck too, they're far more experienced with these type of payment models to know that messing with a game's balance like that (thank you TF2) is not a good idea.
They also didn't add ~25 individual paid DLC's to any of their games either and then try something like this.

Almost every gun is absurdly powerful now though. This game is absurdly easy on the hardest difficulty now.

I suppose. The issue is when the card drops make up a major part of your progression because it's how you get new weapon mods. Even for the skins that have no stat boost, having the safes there dilutes the drop tables, and I imagine it feels real shitty to finish a heist and drop something you need to pay real money to unlock, which could mean the drop is basically nothing.

Literally the only game with a decent micro transaction implementation

Tbh at that point I plan on just rushing Four Stores since that ATM is still broken as fuck
Anyway, I'm less pissed now that I don't gotta pay cash, but I still don't like having to rely on a drill drop.

While I feel CS:GO is the best of a bad bunch in this regard , I still can't support micro-transactions in a retail game , cosmetic or not. Though obviously cosmetic is better.
The reason people are pissed off is because Payday 2 shouldn't need microtransactions because it's base price is like 25 euros or something. They just don't fit. It's an obvious attempt at cashgrabbing.

It's not that, it's the fact that they have $100 of DLC.

holy fuck
i just thought people got super pissed because of the fucking half-assed microtransactions
It wouldn't be so bad if it worked like treasures in dota rather than the crates/cases from csgo and TF2. You don't need to pay for a key or anything of the sort, you can just open the treasure right away with a safety sytem that prevents you from getting dupes until you've obtained every single item from the treasure.
This being said, the treasures from Dota are only obtainable by directly paying for them, or for a compendium that lets you unlock treasures indirectly. But if the same system was applied to a model without any microtransaction, it'd actually work pretty well and would motivate people to purchase the DLC weapons as they could get free skins for these weapons.
At this point however, this is entirely irrelevant. Overkill fucked up big time and absolutely ruined their reputation forever, they'll never get back from this because they've constantly abused the trust of their player base and treated loyal customers like cows without even hiding from it.

Nah, it's more that you're paying $3 each for shit like Snipers or Grenades.
And some heists are like $7

CoD map packs are a better deal

Seriously it is disappointing when you get the game and open the menu and see more than half of the tabs are locked behind DLCs
Literally the only game with a decent micro transaction implementation
IMO it's terrible.
I wonder if there's a mod that disables all weapon skins clientside, that would be nice.
They just added meme masks + jumping animations as the final, big reward.
This is also known as "putting the final nail in the coffin". What a terrible developer.

Okay?
CS also has no DLC
Is only £12
And the skins are entirely cosmetic

Not to mention you could make your own maps in CSGO. And the new ones are free to play anyway.
I mean I guess you could count operations as DLC but it's not like they're something as essential as a sniper rifle, which is very useful on some heists.
[editline]24th October 2015[/editline]
I just realized that with some mapping magic we could make our in heists in CSGO.
Fuck I wanna do that now but ugh hammer
I own every piece of PD2 DLC and the fuck if I'm piddling out $2.50 a pop for skin keys. PD2's DLC is mandatory to be able to cope with the ridiculous bullshit enemies and increased spawn rates. It's just a shame that they fucked up this badly. Things were looking better for a while, and now with Winters and the other crap, it's just dumb.
