• Is there research on the safety of steam, etc. ?

Being a minor, I have to rely on my parents' credit cards for online purchases. They get suspicious every single time I want to buy something online, which I understand. I myself hate the fact that technically buying stuff online is little safer than giving your bank withdrawal card and account number to a corporation guy, and trusting them to only take the sum of the price from the account. Anyways, my logic says that steam, being of a large corporation, and having so many clients, can't really do anything nasty since with all those clients on their asses they'd be fucked. There must be some research, something concrete to prove the safety of these online stores and shiiz, especially steam (in my case), but where to find it?
Nope, they're going to steal all your money, because they are able to steal the cash of more than a million people without anyone noticing.
If they buy stuff online on other sites, just say that it's no different.

You want proof? Over 20million people have steam. Seems solid to me... The worst case scenario is you somehow have a keylogger on your computer and it is sending all you inputs to another location where it is logged, and later used to commit identity theft. But, that's only if you have no Anti-Malware, Anti-Virus, and/or download questionable files that can contain a trojan with a keylogger... Steam is safe, Trust me.
.0isin, exactly what I meant, read the bit that starts with "my logic says" tob, they don't really, or haven't for a while. I also would like to know myself, although I'm not quite as paranoid as they are MUFC2007, thanks for the effort, but that's hardly research, nor unbiased. Syphen, same as for .0isin
.0isin, exactly what I meant, read the bit that starts with "my logic says" tob, they don't really, or haven't for a while. Syphen, same as for .0isin
They best thing to do if you so unsure would be to make a paypal account, put 10$ in it, install steam and buy a 10$ game with money on your paypal... But that's for paranoid people...
MUFC2007, thanks for the effort, but that's hardly research, nor unbiased.
It's a legal agreement, it's hardly made up, it's there because it's true and if they break any of it they are in deep shit. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_%28content_delivery%29 If you don't trust the legal agreement I linked you to, then give up and refuse to purchase Steam games because you won't find anything better than a contract.
Here I found you an Honest Review http://mschat.net/reviews/index.php?review=14 [editline]01:10PM[/editline] http://steamreview.org/posts/steamplatform/
true, MUFC2007, but seriously now, how many people really read that short novel worth of legal text? Syphen, I'll see to those. thank you.
How many people question a companies legitimacy when they hold a customer base of over 20,000,000?
This. Plus you can check your receipt online and they email you about any of your transactions for proof of purchase.
I do know about the big customer base. damn, I even mentioned it in the first post. Yet I'm a bit suspicious (yes, it's paranoia, which I acknowledge), and the parents, the ones with the visa, are really suspicious. They won't believe that having a huge amount of customers, the majority of which will be on the company's ass if they do anything suspicious, helps. i really wouldn't like to wait for 10 minutes each time I make a purchase, just barely convincing them they can't steal the money without consequences so, the question remains, is there research, or something from a third party of authority that would confirm this?
Go to CVS Pharmacy and get those prepaid credit cards
My dad used to have steam so he trusts it fully :c00l:
