Your dinner has just finished, and through random chance (or due to a fancy schedule on the kitchen wall/refrigerator) you have been selected as the caretaker of the dishwasher for this evening.
Your responsibility; loading dirty utensils and plates into the dishwasher in the most optimal way possible.
At some point it's time to load in the cutlery, and the way it's placed into the dishwasher varies between households and even between family members.
How do you place small sharp cutlery (forks, utility knives, steak knives, etc...) into the cutlery basket when you load the dishwasher?
Pointy bits up because I feel like having the business ends not buried into a cluttered plastic basket will get them cleaner. Plus I live alone and don't care if I have to touch the business ends to extract them out of the basket, and I trust myself not to stab myself on them.

Super long knives and forks go sideways on the top rack if theres room between the plastic dishes.
Pointy bits go up else you're not cleaning them properly.
The best way to get a real nice clean is to not use the dishwasher. Hand-wash all of your utensils and dishes and then store them in said dishwasher for drying, otherwise you've fallen prey to the capitalist home appliance monster.
wake up sheeple
As long as the pointy ends aren't mixed in with other silver ware. There's been times when I've reached into a dishwasher to unload it and almost stab myself because someone put a cutting knife in with all the butter knives.
Hand wash them instead of being a fool cause you may as well just give it a rinse and flick or some shit with dishwashers

Don't use a filthy sponge, get a proper disposable and sterile scrubbing pad and use your hands
random and do it blindfolded, i like to live my life on the edge
Pointy bits down because they're mostly clean when they go in the washer anyway, the dishwasher is mostly an extra sanitary step that I take. Gotta hand wash your dishes clean or else the dishwasher won't do anything.

Our apartment has a dish washer but we just hand wash and use it to store plates and utensils :v:
Would have preferred a clothes dryer instead but what are ya gonna do

bring it on
However the hell my wife puts it in.
She knows her place.
50/50, knives down so you don't stab yourself, forks up since those are only dangerous if you slam your hand into it.
I put them pointy side down, because I live with two kids who don't wash their hands enough, leave their messes around for other people to clean, and occasionally rush in/out of the bathroom without flushing. If one of them is emptying the dish washer, I don't want their hands touching the ends of the forks/spoons that might be going in my mouth.

Right? Unless you're doing dishes for a whole family hand washing is perfectly fine. If you're worried about the detergent messing with your skin, get gloves.
Knives down, butter knives, forks, spoons etc up.
use ye olde spitshine instead
I wash everything by hand. My dishwasher is super shit and seems to make the dishes dirtier, it also feels better knowing the things I eat off of get a proper cleaning instead of trusting some mindless hot water squirter to get the leftover lasagna off my damn plates
Pointy bits down. The cutlery basket is so full of holes it doesn't affect cleaning, so I'll put them in a way that'll take half a second less to load and unload. Plus my hand is away from danger, and the sharp part that is eventually going to touch my food isn't being touched by my hand
I dont like using dishwashers I just eat from the same plate because I dont like throwing away food and even the stains are food think about the people who cant get any food
