• Looking for a 3D monitor

I've tried out some LG 3D monitors at an event this weekend and I was instantly sold. Besides that, I'm looking for a second monitor anyway. I have a few questions about these monitors before I can consider buying one: - Passive or active 3D? I know glasses for active 3D are more expensive and they can get out of sync, but passive is known to be blurry. What do you suggest? - Which brand? I know LG makes some good monitors, but is there really a brand I should be looking out for? - Monitors ready for Nvidia 3D vision or does it not matter that much? - Monitor type? LCD, TFT, IPS? Is it worth it? What should I go for? Then I'm looking for a monitor with a size of at least 23.6" (my current monitor is 24" 1920x1200 and I don't want to go smaller again) that supports 3D well, not as if it's some gimmicky addon for that specific monitor. I'm willing to spend about 300 euros on a good 3D monitor that will last me for a while. I'm mostly planning to play games on it and perhaps some movies from time to time. I have a GTX570 video card.
I'm also really wanting to get a passive 3d monitor, and i am wondering why it's so hard to find information on this.
get the one with non-shutter, battery free glasses. i think lg is the only major company that does this, the 3d glasses are like $10 nvidia 3d means better support for 3d games although some do not require it (do more research on this one)
I own a 3D laptop. Mine has interlaced 3D. where every other line of pixels is polarized one direction and the even lines are polarized the other way. It has a VERY small range where the glasses will work for it. If you're off the glasses won't filter the light at the correct angle and you get crosstalk in the glasses and the 3D immediately dies. So I personally would suggest a 120hz monitor and Nvidia 3D vision. But perhaps I've had a bad experience with passive 3D. Though I will say, when you find proper 1080p 3D porn it's amazing. I have a couple videos of 1080p 3D porn and they look pretty darn impressive in 3D. If you're going for shutter 3D, you're only option is basically TN panel LCD, CRT's don't hit 120hz unless you're at really low resolutions like 800x600. IPS's don't hit over 60hz.
Active 3D monitors are presumably capable of 120Hz, which is a big bonus for 2D content. I've never seen a 1200p monitor capable of anything higher than 60Hz, yet there are plenty 1080p monitors with twice the refresh rate. If it's only the monitor size that matters, you can simply discard the 120 lines without sacrificing 24 inch screens.
I own an Asus VG236H monitor and I bloody love it. It uses Nvidia's 3D vision (includes the kit with a set of glasses) and the 3D is great. It's very high rated for both it's 3D and non-3D. I personally use it a lot of time without 3D and the colours are great as well as the being 120Hz fluid. I got mine from Amazon for £400: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VG236H-23-inch-Monitor-NVIDIA/dp/B003W0JXBC/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317753154&sr=8-1 I don't else to say but if you have any questions about it fire away! Make sure you use Nvidia 3D vision by the way.
I sell tv's and have tried the Panasonic, Sony, Samsung and LG 3d TV's. I hate the active glasses on the sony and samsung, they hurt my eyes and you can see the physical flickering of them. The panasonic plasma is ok. The best ive seen so far are the LG passive glasses in comfort and vieuwing pleasure.(The panasonic seems sharper though) Dont know if this helps any for selecting a computer monitor but its what I know.
You never see anything bigger than 1080p at 120Hz because that's near the bandwidth limit of HDMI/DVI.
But there is Displayport.
Samsung SA750/SA950 series are some of the best 120hz monitors at the moment, however the 3D Vision support is hacky at best so they are better suited to AMD graphics card owners.

Is it easy to use a 120 Hz display and this 60 Hz one together in a multi-monitor setup for when I'm working instead of gaming?

vg236h there's no such thing as an IPS 3D monitor, every LCD monitor that exists uses TFT tech all you can get for true 120Hz right now is TN LG makes shitty monitors, just like Samsung; throw a bunch of glossy plastic around the screen and people will think it's good lol why are you saying you won't pay more than 300 euros when you live in the us you won't get a good 3D monitor for under $400 with glasses
You'll need to turn Aero off or the 120hz screen will be choppy (it tries to vsync it to 60hz)
You on about the multi monitor bit?
You on about the multi monitor bit?
Yes, Aero vsyncs all monitors to the lowest refresh rate on a multi monitor setup. Really hope they fix that one for Windows 8.
There is no difference between a 1.3 or 1.4 HDMI cable. The versions only differ in the protocol in devices themselves.
There is no difference between a 1.3 or 1.4 HDMI cable. The versions only differ in the protocol in devices themselves.
One supports 3d the other does not iirc Nvidia 3D uses DVI which is a good interface anways.
I currently use a acer gd235hz (Best 3d screen I have seen/used so far) I own the 3d vision from nvidia and playing the CoD series with it was a pleasure ! starcraft 2 in 3d is also really fun. and having the 120hz in game really makes a difference ! I play cs:s in lans and when I see someone whitout a 120 I almost feel bad because of the slow/jittering

OP posts always show up as the user being from the US [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] On topic: 3D is a gimmick I love when it works well, only issue I have is that currently they are restricted to "basic" TN monitor tech yet very expensive, tend to wash out colors and brightness (which isn't helped by TN's already washed out colors compaired to IPS), require glasses which are abnormally expensive, has limited support etc. I'd totally get 3D if all games/media supported it pretty much flawlessly to a golden standard, if I could use IPS on it, and if the glasses were either eliminated or somehow consolodated.
One supports 3d the other does not iirc Nvidia 3D uses DVI which is a good interface anways.
The interface does the cable doesnt make a difference.

And besides... still waiting for an IPS panel with 3D support.
You never see anything bigger than 1080p at 120Hz because that's near the bandwidth limit of HDMI/DVI.
bandwidth limit is 1920x1200 at 120hz, not 1080p Edit: oops late
I was actually about to get one of those, till I found out that they have some ghosting issues in 3D mode.
