Wii U games apparently has a lot of framerate issues, which is a terrible shame.
I haven't experienced any frame rate drops when playing BO2 and AC3 on my Wii U.
Really? I've seen many videos of the COD:BO 2 on the Wii U and it was gorgeous
The fps was right on too. I'm not entirely for sure this is true.
it's almost kind of sad to see that they've basically fallen an entire generation behind everyone else
I mean that in the sense that this console is on par with the xbox 360 and the playstation 3
whereas the next gen consoles will come out soon(ish) and nintendo is going to be behind again
Wii U CPU is a 'bottleneck', most games developers conclude
The bottleneck is the developers just copy and pasting code and not applying any real optimizations. It's a brand new console, they should spend some time learning how to optimize first before trying to port a ton of games and whine about the console.
I can't actually recall Nintendo ever being the forefront of graphics ever other than the launch of the NES. The NES was the best for a few years (unless I am forgetting something that isn't an arcade cabinet) until the Sega Genesis came around, and then the SNES was able to keep up with it a year or two year later. Nintendo were always either equal with the competition, or below. Technically speaking, the Nintendo 64 was better than the Playstation, but the Playstation came out years before the Nintendo 64. The original Xbox came out around the same time as the Gamecube, and we all know what has happened since then with the Wii.
Oh please, the Wii u is more powerful than the last generation (obviously). Developers just need to optimize for the Wii U. If what this article says is true:
http://www.zeldainformer.com/news/comments/developers-have-it-wrong-the-wii-u-is-powerful-its-just-next-generation-pow
Developers just need to get used to the system. PS3 games didn't look too good at launch, but overtime they got fairly good. The next Xbox and PlayStation will probably be more powerful, but who knows by how much, Sony probably won't sell the next PlayStation at a massive loss again so they won't make it too powerful. Give the system some time.
I've seen Black Ops II on the Wii U and I saw no visible frame rate issues. Not sure what that guy is talking about.
how hard could it be for Nintendo to create a good up-to-date fucking console?
It's not really Nintendo's fault this time, it's partially the developer's fault for not even bothering to optimize their games and/or just do direct ports.
Developers are becoming more lazy, Dishonored is a perfect example of a well optimized game in my opinion.

For the most part it is up to date. Its ram and gpu are 4 times better than the ps3s. People were complaining about the xbox 360 when its games were xbox ports. Give it some time.
My computer with an nVidia GTX 550ti runs saints row 2 like shit
must be a bad graphics card

for anybody who does not know, Saints Row 2 is one of the worst optimized ports in the history of history
The biggest problem with optimization is that it takes time. Time the developers doesn't have when they have a big publisher breathing down their neck who doesn't actually give a shit about how good the game as long as they get to pile up money from it.
The developers are sadly forced to do rushed ports.

I agree, but it also worries me about next generation which would only mean more work done on games which also means to keep same development cycle you need to hire more staff and game development cost will raise unless there will be some better approaches for workflow to speed up the process like new tools available, but seeing how industry is constantly shifting it seems it will be unnoticed.
880x720. Are you joking me? That's pitiful.
I thought it was concluded that BLOPS2 looked and ran the best on the wii u?
I thought it was concluded that BLOPS2 looked and ran the best on the wii u?
By whom exactly?
By whom exactly?
no one source, it just seemed to be a general consensus.
Christ. This console hasn't even been out a month and it's being crucified over every little detail.
so hey guys lets port our engine dating to 2008 to this brand new console and make it work, you have 4 months and any more than that you're not paid!!
"Wii U CPU is a 'bottleneck', most games developers conclude"
you mean the engine dating back to 1999 (in the case of cod)
I wonder it's to do with firmware, not hardware.
The firmware isn't 100% bugfree/optimized the day/time it gets released right?

it does look like its running fairly well, which is great. on a side note though, playing with a wiimote looks extremely clunky.

And I thought 1024x600 for the earlier ones was terrible.
I don't know why everyone has a hard time accepting that the WiiU is, from a hardware perspective, pretty horrible. Just because you bought it or because Nintendo was great in the NES/SNES era doesn't mean you have to defend everything they do.
The hardware is bad, it's slightly better than current gen in some areas, while in others it apparently falls behind. This isn't soon after the 360 and PS3 release either, it's pretty much at the end of the current cycle. I really don't see how people can seriously defend the hardware, because it's just bad, and that's not really debatable either, because again slightly surpassing 7 year old consoles isn't what one would call good.
Games can be great and it can be a good console, but the hardware is just bad and you're just defending it out of nostalgia for the NES/SNES/N64 and the fact that you probably got overhyped at announcement by taking CGI trailers as actual in-game footage.

It's almost as if you haven't read into it at all.

Nintendo has been a generation behind for 16 years.

They're stubborn when it comes to change.
