Thank you based SquareEnix
I like how he's at least honest about it.
I don't pirate games, but DRM is giving me a reason to not buy your product. Even Steam is losing me a little considering that there are more than a few games on Good Old Games i want.
But it still doesn't work? Pirates will always break drm, literally the only people it affects are the paying customers.
Take notes Ubisoft.
But it still doesn't work?
“So long as we're concerned about things like data privacy, accounting sharing, and hacking, we'll need some form of DRM,” he finished.
I fail to see how hacking and data privacy are solved using DRM. Unless he counts encrypting resources, etc, as DRM which I don't unless you require to like activate the game to internet or something to unlock it. As for account sharing (and locking down resources). I'm a strong believer of "If you own it, you can do whatever you want" and thus if I own a game I should be perfectly allowed to let my friend borrow/play/keep my game or be allowed to change some resources around or extract a few audio bits for personal use (like sms tones or ringtones etc). Obviously not saying you should be allowed to re-distribute any of the resources. But what of the profits?! I purchased the product, therefore it is mine. I own it and thus I control it. Yeah, it sucks that the company might lose a few sales. But not everything should be allowed to be waived in the name of money. Imagine a chair which restricts anyone but the owner from sitting on it! It would be ridiculous. And to me, it's the same thing. And there are other ways to prevent a loss of sale. If appropriate, add something that gives my friend a reason to buy it. If it's an MP game, of course you wouldn't be able to play twice on the same account, but what if me and my friend wants to play with eachother? My friend has to buy the game. Or make the game just so damned good my friend, after having tried my copy, thinks it's so amazing he just needs to have a copy of it himself so he buys it. DRM is always, and will always be a bad thing.
