I do not understand the fascination of backlights or extra fancy lights in general. One light for the power, one light for the HDD activity, and three for my keyboard modifiers is all I need.
I'm too focused on my screen to give a shit about how my keyboard looks outside of basic color and shape. All of these strives to make computers look like futuristic mech gear is really off-putting and too disconnected from reality for me - I don't think of my desk as a "battlestation" - it's a fucking desk. I don't need to dress up my gaming habits as something its not, and I emphasize minimalism and practicality over showing off to no one in my bedroom.
Great more useless lights, as if Razer didn't have enough of that already.

Not that I'm going to make fun of you or condemn you, but why? I've never understood it at all. Who's going to be looking at your computer to warrant the visuals? How is that LED mouse going to look when it's covered by your hand as you're using it? Backlit keyboards make sense if you're constantly looking down to peck at keys, but do you?

The lights on my tower are pure vanity, but they came stock on the ultra-huge case I bought. I have one of those logitech mice with the 12 buttons on the side and I use the lights to differentiate between which profile I have it set to, since certain games don't allow the bindings that I generally use on it.
Honestly, a lot of it is vanity. I got into it whenever I was working at my old job and making bank. Flashy-lighties aren't a priority, as I'm usually function over form, but if I have the cash to toss around I'll gladly drop a little extra on something with dumb glowies.

I have a mood light behind my monitor to ease eye strain a bit. Plus it looks nice.

So do I.
Attached a warm-white LED strip along with a PWM circuit to regulate brightness, but as you mentioned, that's for reducing eye-strain.
So I still agree wholly with wauterboi

Picture of this? I'm actually interested in how this works.

I don't typically use the lighting on my mouse but I use like 12 different keyboards on a daily basis so sometimes the layout can be slightly disorienting. It's nice to be able to take a quick glance even if it's dark
Stop it Razer! Those already exist!
Stop saving pc gaming!
Stop reinventing the wheel!
Stop pretending like you're the only company that does anything!!!!
it looks like the neon lights on cars I made in need for speed when I was really young
about as useless as well :v:

It looks a lot brighter IRL, bright enough that I can see the whole room. It's a Philips LivingColours Micro.

It's called Bias Lighting, basically the idea is instead of having something super bright in front of something dark, most of what's in your vision is the same brightness. You can do it by sticking a lamp behind your monitor, taping some LEDs to it, or even going as far as using RGB LEDs that match whatever's currently on your screen
I've got a keyboard that lights the buttons up with a red LED thats pretty helpful when it's dark, and my computer itself has a blue LED that adds a nice extra flavor to the room.

Why not? Backlights are nice. Visually appealing and sometimes helpful in certain situations. Sure, maybe you're not looking at your equipment 100% of the time but that kind of argument against the practicality of backlights could be said about anything regarding personalization of equipment you don't stare at all the time. You don't need people to look at your stuff to warrant nice visuals. Backlights look nice, isn't that really all there is to it?
That being said, I don't have any backlights on my equipment except for my mouse, which by default has it enabled. I also have the option to disable it. If they don't appeal to you, that's nice all, but what's the point in questioning the practicality of visuals for equipment? That seems rather silly in my opinion, especially when there's really nothing more to it than "it looks nice".
Considering the build quality of razer products, and the history lenovo has with preinstalled crap, I don't expect anything good from this at all.
