• Samsung Galaxy S2 959g/i777 - No boot after failed CWM install

About 6 months ago, I attempted to root my 959g. Couldn't get CWM to work ever. Gave up, used the phone up until today. Bought an S3, so I figured I'd do a factory reset and sell my S2. Did the factory reset, but, it refuses to boot now. I'm assuming it's because of the failed CWM install attempt. At this point, I have searched high and low to find the factory recovery files to flash them via odin. I have found the factory rom and such, and am about to try that, but don't have my hopes up. What should I try at this point? Starting the phone as normal makes it hang at the Samsung Galaxy S2 screen. The download function works fine, recovery mode does nothing. Doesn't even attempt to load CWM. If anyone wants this thing that can fix it, i'd be interested in selling it. I paid $350 for the thing brand new 6 months ago. Bought a 3500mAh extended battery. I've got nearly $400 into this thing and I just can't believe it's sitting on my desk, useless until it's fixed [editline]29th November 2013[/editline] Ive messed around some, downloaded heimdall and a factory rom. Another thing, after flashing KERNAL, RECOVERY, and MODEM, Heimdall crashes at 43% at doing FACTORYFS. The Recovery part works now. However, as I expected, it freezes on the Galaxy boot screen. Trying new version of Heimdall now. Have a headache from hell at this point. Faaack
As long as you can get into download mode you should be able to flash a stock image with odin which would overwrite everything including recovery. Is it actually an at&t model SGH-i777 or the straight talk model SGH-S959g? There's a factory image for the 959g in here you could try.
It is in fact a 959g. The 959g is pretty much an i777 with different firmware. I figured id put i777 in the title so people would recognize it. I've tried a few images now with Odin, even links in that thread. They all failed to install, saying that there was an unexpected end/the file was corrupt. Currently, I'm using Heimdall and a Heimdall factory image from that link. Had issues using 1.3.2 and 1.4 Heimdall, trying 1.3.1 currently. Hoping for the best at this point. It officially made it past 43% on this try Edit; my phone went blank and I nearly threw up from being so nervous. The flash was successful, my beloved Galaxy S2 959G is working great once again. When I screwed up the recovery months ago, I knew it'd bite me in the ass some day if I didn't fix it. For future reference, if your 959g is messed up like mine was; Go here and go down to FACTORY FIRMWARE Download Heimdall 1.3.1 (1.3.2 and 1.4 DID NOT work in my case, 1.4 failed to start at all while 1.3.2 failed at 43%) Download sgh-s959g-stock.tar.gz Then, follow the directions on the page. This will fix a broken recovery, as well as flash the stock rom. I was scared to mess around with flashing back when I messed up the recovery, so I used a crippled phone for a long time. I'm very glad I went ahead and fixed it like this.
Nice, good to hear you got it working
