Wow..
They've just done SOPA/PIPA anyway, except disguised it as something else, less transparent - and frankly, much worse.
I honestly hate all this fucking idiotic bullshit that they impose on us; it's like the guy at the end of the article puts:-
All this harms is your average citizens, because the people commiting 'crimes' use proxies and shit anyway or could just connect through someone elses/ a public Wifi, potentially landing the owner in trouble for something they had nothing to do with.
It's like, if you're a guy in the UK, you can find weed within an hour even though it's illegal, except that there's a lot of potential danger involved in the acquisition of it, which puts even more peoples lives in jeopardy - and that danger wouldn't be there if it was decriminalized.
I'm sure if you were in a gang or had connections you could get yourself a gun or pepper spray pretty quickly too even though they're illegal, and you could fuck people up with it who have no real means of defending themselves. I'm not saying that legalizing guns is the right thing to do but they need to realize that people who want stuff that's illegal can get it anyway, so all you're really doing is harming the general populace by reducing the means by which they can defend themselves.
I'm sick of this. Why can't government just leave the internet alone?
I'm sick of this. Why can't government just leave the internet alone?
Because they want control, however, they're trying to control something that they do not understand and which can't and shouldn't be "controlled".
Are there any statistics which show just how many terrorist attacks are planned over the internet?
What a pathetic joke. I honestly fear in the future internet will not be the same. Instead it will become nationalized and controlled by higher ups.

What does weed and guns have to do with this? And guns are legal, they're just restricted so you have to fill out forms and contact the police about it.
I don't think we can handle snooping this hard.

Is there any way we can rally to stop this?

This is a UK law...
Guns aren't legal in the UK..
Is there any way we can rally to stop this?
Of course you could protest and / or petition against this like anything else. There wont be much stopping people from doing so. It's just a matter of whether you can get many people on board and (slightly more importantly) whether the government will actually listen, which they probably wont.

I don't understand how you can draw parallels to SOPA/PIPA. They were about copyright infringement - we were scared that all our favourite sites would have to be shut down or heavily moderated. This is about privacy fears, "counter terrorism" and what not. Still bad yes, but two entirely different issues.

Yes they are, you just have to get certification from the police that you're not a fucking retard and then you can go buy whatever gun you're certified for.

Alright, and I was talking about gun-waving criminals being able to obtain them anyway, cause there's no fucking way they would ever be classified for buying a gun legally.
Pistols are illegal unless they're fucking muzzle-loaders and I can't really see you being able to defend yourself against 2 glock-toting muggers whilst you slowly measure out and pour your powder and shot into your legally-obtained 18th century flintlock.
UK law defines a "pistol" as a firearm with a barrel shorter than 30 cm or a total length of less than 60 cm[6] (this definition encompasses revolvers, revolving pistols). Only muzzle-loading pistols—including muzzle-loading revolvers—are permitted; in practice all such firearms use black powder—a Class 1 explosive—as the propellant. All other pistols are prohibited on the UK mainland, with some exceptions such as pistols used for the humane dispatch of injured animals (such as deer) and some historical firearms.
Specific models of blank-firing starting pistol that are "readily convertible" to fire live ammunition can also be banned. The Bruni Olympic .380 BBM blank-firing revolver was banned in 2010 on evidence that it was being illegally converted.[7]
My point is, if you want something, you can get it, whether it is completely illegal or requires classification - without having that classification.
Uzi's, sawn-off shotties, desert eagles, etc.
Yes they are, you just have to get certification from the police that you're not a fucking retard and then you can go buy whatever gun you're certified for.
The vast majority of guns aren't, sure you can buy a shotgun or hunting rifle but I think he's more on about the personal defense kind of thing against criminals who can have pistols etc.

Yes because this is an 19th century black power pistol right?

Some of the comments on the article are just fucking retarded:

I wrote to my MP about this but they're a conservative prick that always votes the way the party does, and pretty much hates non-conservatives or people that complain.
How the fuck do these people get voted in?
They've just done SOPA/PIPA anyway, except disguised it as something else, less transparent - and frankly, much worse.
I don't know what you mean, SOPA was completely different in basically every way. SOPA would have forced websites to police user's content and take down copyrighted stuff. This is about ISPs keeping records of what their users do.
They're both dodgy but I don't know what you can possibly mean by saying they're the same thing
I would look a little odd if all my traffic was being routed through an offshore VPS, wouldn't it...
How the fuck do these people get voted in?
Money.
Labour failed to get it made into law due to protest, and thankfully this government changes it's mind every 3 months anyway.
Protest, people. Write to your MP's by hand.
I would look a little odd if all my traffic was being routed through an offshore VPS, wouldn't it...
exactly, they will now be able to monitor for suspicious internet traffic, ie using tor.
I bet that alone will net them a warrant
[editline]14th June 2012[/editline]
which is why we need everyone to do it. make their jobs a lot harder/irrelevant
plus speed the tor network up a fair bit
Oh yeah I guarantee terrorists are plotting something right now on TF2
Theresa May of all people shouldn't be in charge of something like this, she's a fucking dolt.

That person sounds like the kind of fucktard that only uses the Internet for email, Facebook, and online shopping.
