I maintain my opinion that Lionhead forgot how to make games halfway through fable 2.
No mouse support in the menus. Are you fucking kidding me? "Lets use a and b to navigate the menu like the keyboard is a fucking controller!"
Also using the arrow keys for navigation. What is this? 1993?
Just get Lost Chapters on steam. Its actually a decent PC port.

I'd wager most people who got this already owned Lost Chapters.

Holy shit those reviews

The fucking blur makes this game unplayable for me. It hurts my fuckin eyes and I feel like I'm playing with my glasses off. It's beyond irritating.
Pretty much every negative review on Steam is spot on.

how fucking ironic that it'ss an HD remake only to apparently play far worse than the original
how do you even fuck that up.
I'm literally blown away that anyone could have messed up a remake. All you have to do is make it look better and polish it, that's it. YOUR JOB ALREADY IS DONE BEFORE YOU STARTED IT. All you had to do was take a little wax and a towel, scrub it and sheen it, make it pretty, that's it.
But no, you broke it. You took a bucket of paint and just... threw it on with your bare hands.

is this a paid review or something?
They didn't even redo the pre-rendered cutscenes for fucks sake so they look pixilated as fuck. They even re-used their original Lionhead logo before the start of the game! It's so blurry it's hilarious. All the (just the voice?) audio is re-used too but that I kinda expected.

His list is fucking retarded.
I will finish up with this... what has actually changed in this remake:
- it includes TLC (The Lost Chapters expansion)
Uhh that's a given since this is a HD remake of TLC so this hasn't actually changed.
- it's on a completely different engine (Unreal Engine 3)
Ok
- visuals receive a huge facelift in all areas (new textures between some characters and places as well)
Debatable. Some stuff looks fucking terrible and weird looking. eg. child Hero looks like he's high.
- audio was remastered and remixed
Sure as fuck doesn't sound like it.
- trading cards
Wow! This is worthless imo.
- full controller support
At the cost of fucking proper kb + m support that the damn original had!
- steamworks integration (achievements, workshop being worked on and possible Steam cloud)
Well this is actually nice.
- lip-sync on all characters has been completely re-done as well as facial animations
And yet it still looks shit.
- the save system has been overhauled
Works the exact same way as it used to. It just looks different because of the new UI
- widescreen support (unrestricted resolution with appropriate FoV, v-sync caps the game at 60 FPS but disabling v-sync means you can play at whatever FPS your PC can manage)
Always a good thing.
- UI has been changed
For the worse depending on what you're trying to do.
- new difficulty added
It's basically a mode that disable resurrection philes for all the people that moaned about it all those years ago. But more options is always good I suppose.
- bunch of new control schemes
For the fucking controller.
- minor changes (e.g. allowing for an option of equipping an item from certain screens)
- extensive game balancing
- bugs and other annoying issues (from memory) are fixed for the record
Instead we got worse ones this time around. So yay Hero's hair doesn't clip through his head and make weird wiggly movements anymore! Now if only I could play the game without constant stuttering.
Wow they really dropped the ball on this one.
It's like Lionhead wants to show just how bad they are nowadays by ruining a good game they made before.
Some graphic options are obnoxious but they're fixable if Lionhead bothers with that, the controls though, are pure shit from what I'm reading on the reviews, having to use Insert - Home - Delete and End in menus while in the original you could just use the mouse, fucking seriously?
It's a straight console port, they didn't give a shit, they just rebound the controller buttons to some random keyboard buttons and released it, the reason blur is obnoxious as shit is because it was made to be viewed far away from the screen like if you were playing on a console.
i played this game on my friend pc and it was pretty terrible.
Coming from Lionhead studios, I'm not surprised they fucked up because they had a history with fucking up games after the first fable game, then it went downhill from there.
Black and White, Black and White 2, and Fable 1 is the only good games that I know that remains to be very good. Afterwards they starting to decline into a downward spiral from great to shit and never will be recovered until peter molyneux leaves lionhead studios or lionhead studios officially shutdown. peter molyneux, modern prime evil of lies... probably corrupted them.

he added some shit
TL;DR - $30 for this may seem a lot for people who own the game already, even with these changes, but for people who don't own it: you'll love this game and exploring the wonderful world of Fable that lays ahead of you. Rating: 8.1/10 (due to several minor complaints & issues).
he clearly didn't play the original and legitimately thinks this is some new game or something
TB's video on it cemented it for me. I'd just get the earlier version and run some sweetFX on it.
It's an awful remake/port. The UI is abysmal. Even with a controller it's a step down imo. And the way some stuff looks I wonder if they even tested it.
I can't fathom how you fuck up so fucking hard
None of Lionhead Studios' games are actually perfect or good.Their games are always buggy and not good.
Although the only game from them I've played is The Movies.

There's been a lot of shitty remakes, it's mostly laziness/incompetence at work.
There's been a lot of shitty remakes, it's mostly laziness/incompetence at work.
Yeah but most are just lazy reskins, they never manage to make games that are actually worse than before, just games that are virtually the same and therefore not worth the £40 price tag.

Halo or Serious Sam are good examples of a remake/engine update, albiet I've not tried the remade Halo. But they basically converted the entire engine and all the graphics into an up to date engine and improved a lot of things.

I played it through with a friend, was a lot of fun. It didn't look as pretty as it should have (less than Reach despite coming out a year and a half after) but imo it just played for better than the original.
How is it that a PC game made by developers who have made PC games before not have proper mouse support in menus and yet Dark Souls a game made by devs who had never made a PC game before have (mostly) proper mouse support in menus??
But Fable has always been a Xbox-centric game series
Uh I'm talking about all their fucking games, not just Fable. They have made other games you know.
Regardless, TLC had mouse support.

They didn't make proper use of detail maps, which is something Bungie always uses the fuck out of. Layers upon layers of tiled detail textures. They rely on it... So when a new studio takes Bungie assets and doesn't do the same thing with detail maps... well, you end up with those fucking elites straight from Reach that look way worse than the elites in Reach. Also I'm pretty sure their materials were nowhere near as robust as the stuff the Bungie folks come up with.
Also, this looks absolutely awful. Like, wow.
TB hit the nail on the head. If you want to play the original Fable, play the original Fable. It holds up well and it works perfect with Mouse and Keyboard. If you're into using a controller, instead, and haven't played the original before, then I don't see why you shouldn't get Anniversary. TLC is a better PC game, though.
If you wanna have a brain aneurysm read the games Steam forum.
Been playing it with a controller and I'm really enjoying it. I played the shit out of the original on Xbox when it first came out and loved it. To me, it's exactly the same just easier on the eye - which I don't really have a problem with - the price is my issue.
If you haven't played TLC before and have a controller, I'd say get it. I guess I'm simple to please but I'm digging it.
