gasmasks used to be very big here a few years ago. There were even megathreads for them.
I'm afraid I fall into this stereotype. Hell, I even have the quintessential aspie model of gas mask, the GP-5.
Why do I own it? Because when I was a young taking an interest in Soviet and Warsaw Pact(now only Warsaw Pact) military clothing/gear it was one of the most readily available and inexpensive things I could obtain.
Mostly it sits in a box in my room, but I don't regret buying it. It's a neat little thing and I sometimes don it for laughs.
Don't have one, don't plan on getting one.
I actually do, they're great for costumes.
I had a gas mask bong when I still smoked weed, my best mate got it for my birthday a couple years ago. Lost it though, but I'm not fussed, more of the smoke went in my eyes than lungs.
I have some soviet gasmask I bought at an army surplus store because it looked cool.

I used to own a damaged(a hole in the side, not noticeable but enough to be death in a Sarin environment) Soviet GP-5. Didn't have any filters and i've since lost it.
My brother liked to use it as a personal hotbox when he had friends over. I actually wore it to school once and got away with it. I brought it in as a historical artifact for my 8th grade social studies class. Scared the living shit out of some people.
I made it to class early with it and had it on while i was sitting at my desk and some girl walk in and let out the most bloodcurdling scream imaginable.
My SS teacher fuckin loved it though, nobody else did anything as cool as bring in an actual gas mask. It was pretty neat to wear, had vents in the face section to prevent the little windows from fogging up but was extremely tight.
I realize now that it's what the standard gas mask in STALKER was based on, which makes it all the more awesome.
Also to note, i had this mask and lost it long before i ever knew what Facepunch was.
Gasmasks are overrated.

Yes, for an essential reason. When the government decides it's time to gas the world with mustard gas all the sheeple who didn't care and got mind controlled will stumble out into the gas, and suffocate. On the other hand, [I]I[/I] will have my gas mask and tinfoil and ak47, and I will survive.

Its a old, used soviet one that used to belong to my grandfather so it's there for family reasons.
I have a GP-5 and an Israeli one for my STALKER costume
