• Faulty monitor USB Ports?

So I have, 6 to 8 (I'm not going to bother counting) USB ports on the back of my tower that work great. There are also 2 in the front that work perfectly fine. But whenever trying to plug anything in my monitor's USB ports, i'll get no response from my computer at all, not even a noise saying it's recognized it. I've checked device manager, nothing wrong there. What's even more odd is when I try and check the settings in my BIOS, my keyboard won't respond to any keystrokes. It's also plugged into the back of the computer, so I know the ports work fine. This isn't the first machine I've owned thats had this problem, whats more odd is that I can't find any information on it in any of my Google searches. Am I doing it wrong?
A few things here. For your keyboard not working in the bios you have usb support disabled in the bios you need a ps/2 keyboard to fix it. For the monitor there needs to be some sort of secondary power cord for the USB as well as a USB going to the computer. (that's in my experience with my dell 17').
Uh, check to make sure the device works with other things. If they do, then the USB ports could be fudged up. Clean them, not with anything stupid though, stuff with no water content. If you have the know-how and the tools, do a continuity test. Only thing I know from a maintainer's point of view. Also, did you mean that you know the USB ports work on your monitor? or your computer? (I think you mean the computer.)
there should be a USB cable leading from your monitor to your pc, if that isn't connected the usb ports won't work, usb can't be transmitted by vga you know?
Yeah but it should still be able to detect it right? & I don't use VGA I guess I need to find a double ended USB connection?

There's probably a USB-A input in the back of your monitor that needs to be plugged into your PC. Look around the inputs. DVI, HDMI, or VGA can't do USB. (HDMI might be able to in the future? who knows!) [editline]20th January 2011[/editline] It's just a built in hub.
