Ok so it's time for my 5 year total PC upgrade. I've put together a computer up on Novatech and was wondering is it a good build? Contents of the bare bones is:
The main specifications of this barebones are: - AMD Athlon II X4 620 2 x 2Gb 240Pin DDR2 800Mhz ATX Tower Case With 400w PSU NVIDIA MCP61P Motherboard
Yeah well my main concern is that it gives an unnamed 400w PSU and i'm unsure if it can fuel the components. Would 400w be enough? Also i dunno if the bare bones will come with cables such as SATA cables. And another also what sort of gaming performance should i expect at 128x1024 playing the likes of uhh, Borderlands and MW2?
The barebone does not state the ram and PSU brand? Also, I don't know about that motherboard. [editline]12:42PM[/editline] After looking online for "NVIDIA MCP61P Motherboard", not much results come up, I wouldn't go for this as it might be hard in a few years to get drivers and support.
Avoid the barebones PSU at all costs. Actually, avoid the barebones setup altogether and select parts individually. 1280 x 1024 is going to give you very good frames in MW2 and Borderlands. That hard drive is a bit crappy.. Get this instead: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/HardDrives-Internal/SATA500GBto1TB/WD6400AAKS.html
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/specpage.html?BB-6204G Thats a link to the barebones. As far as i can see no it doesn't state a name for them.
It's a rubbish barebones kit, don't bother with it. As for the power supply: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/PowerSupplies/Corsair/VX550W.html or http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/PowerSupplies/Corsair/CMPSU-650TXUK.html
Ok, well i'll browse around and update it.
RAM: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/MemoryRAM/DDR2-PC2-6400/800MHz/Crucial/BL2KIT25664AA80A.html or http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/MemoryRAM/DDR2-PC2-6400/800MHz/Corsair/TWIN2X4096-6400C5C.html Case: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/Cases/Cases/0761345-08300-3.html
Ok, i put in some different parts. Gee, DDR2 is expensive these days. As you can tell i am quite budget constrained i can't really go too near £400.
Hm.. I see. Well you're right about the DDR2, it's pretty much doubled in price recently. I would get this over the Maxtor HD: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/HardDrives-Internal/SATA250GBto320GB/WesternDigital/WD3200AAKS.html And pay a little more for this over the OCZ PSU: http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/PowerSupplies/Corsair/CMPSU-400CXUK.html And since you're on a tight budget.. :http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/prods/Components/MemoryRAM/DDR2-PC2-6400/800MHz/Geil/GB22GB6400C4DC.html Little bit cheaper than the Crucial, and it has the same specs.
Ok, i've replaced the harddrive and PSU for the parts you said. One last thing, will the motherboard come with the cables i need?

Quit being biased.
Ok, i've replaced the harddrive and PSU for the parts you said. One last thing, will the motherboard come with the cables i need?
Yeah it will.
Ok, i've replaced the harddrive and PSU for the parts you said. You don't need to buy any cables separate if that's what you're wondering.
No. The OCZ PSU is fine. Quit being biased.
I think you are actually. It's not a question of being biased: the Corsair PSU is just a better deal for £1 extra.
Yeah i just realised i might as well upgrade to the antec 300 because the 200 looks like ass.
I'm biased? I think you are actually. It's not a question of being biased: The Corsair PSU is just a better deal for £1 extra.
And why is that? [editline]06:16PM[/editline] I'm not being biased at all. I just fail to see your logic.
What are you both talking about the OCZ costs £1 less. Ghost you are biased toward OCZ. OCZ PSU - £38 Corsair PSU - £39 Do you see my logic now?
Yeah i just realised i might as well upgrade to the antec 300 because the 200 looks like ass.
The Antec 300 is a great case. My friend has one, and I'll tell ya, it looks great and the air flow is awesome for the price. Tons of space too.
for the sake of a quid the corsair is worth it
Ok guys before a war breaks out i want to thank you all for your help with an internet cookie I'm afraid you's are going to have to share it.
/me steals it all [editline]06:21PM[/editline]

You proved that you are biased by insisting the OCZ is a better deal regardless of the fact that the Corsair costs the same.
I'm not being biased at all. I just don't see your logic.
If you don't think that a Corsair PSU over a OZC PSU is worth it when the Corsair is £1 more, you need to get out.
If you don't think that a Corsair PSU over a OZC PSU is worth it when the Corsair is £1 more, you need to get out.
Nerd fight! Nerd fight!
If you don't think that a Corsair PSU over a OZC PSU is worth it when the Corsair is £1 more, you need to get out.
That right there is what I'm talking about. Can no one tell me why Corsair is better? I understand the Corsair and OCZ are priced pretty much the same, but the OCZ PSU came up first, so I wanna know, why do you guys think it's better for him to switch to the Corsair one? Why is it worth the £1? Because it's Corsair? If you know something I don't know about how these two PSUs are different please share. Yes, Corsair is a reliable brand, I know that much, but what makes OCZ unreliable? I hear glory about Corsair all the time, but I hear just as much about OCZ too, and Cooler Master, and Antec.
corsair is damn good quality, they make some of the best PSUs it's just that usually they're quite a bit more expensive than alternatives which in this case they're not
corsair is damn good quality, they make some of the best PSUs it's just that usually they're quite a bit more expensive than alternatives which in this case they're not
Like I said in my previous post, I know all that, but you still didn't tell me why.
please explain in length how you don't understand this
What the hell? Saying that "Corsair is damn good quality" is opinion.
