• Windows 7 x64 - CPU rape with 4GB of RAM, fine with one less stick

After an extremely long installation of W7 Home Premium 64-bit (it took more than six hours), I decide to look on the Internet with my phone to see what's causing the constant CPU rape. Turns out it's the RAM. I have seen a bunch of people recommending to enable "Memory Remapping" in one's BIOS to fix the problem — however, mine lacks such an option. Motherboard: MSI G31M3-L V2 CPU: an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 @ 2.33 gHz RAM:2 x 2 GB DDR2 800 DIMM It's not really cool to give up on these precious two gigabytes of RAM, so does anyone have a solution?
6 hours is rather long.... Did you perform a fresh installation or an upgrade?
Run memtest86 and see if you get any errors.
Fresh installation, no memtest errors.
Have you tried unplugging and re-plugging the RAM? Could be just a bad connection
Fresh installation, no memtest errors.
Did you just run memtest or have done it before?
Have you tried unplugging and re-plugging the RAM? Could be just a bad connection
Yes, I tried switching slots as well [editline]06:16PM[/editline]
Did you just run memtest or have done it before?
Both
Have you tried plugging in one stick of ram at a time then check then try another and see if it happens.
You *could* (assuming the RAM worked flawlessly before you installed Windows 7) reinstall windows 7 and see if that helps, it's surprising how many issues can actually be resolved through reinstallations.

Try installing with only one stick in. Then once it is installed put in the rest.
Try installing with only one stick in. Then once it is installed put in the rest.
how can you answer my posts yet not read them? already tried that as well, it works fine as long as there is one stick, no matter which one

Does it mess up when you have them in dual channel mode or not?
Are all sticks the from the same brand ? Make sure you put them in banks that have the same colour.
Is it detected as dual channel?
Same brand: Transcend. The slots are green and yellow (I only have two) No idea about Dual Channel, I think the RAM is though. [editline]07:17PM[/editline] Here's W7's bootlog when I put both sticks in (take a look near the end)
Microsoft (R) Windows (R) Version 6.1 (Build 7600) 12 12 2009 17:49:14.437 Loaded driver vga.sys looks like the standard display drivers. This thread may help you: http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/Windows-XP-Booting-Slower-NDProxy-SYS-t197363.html
