I'm so happy Fortnite is getting big, me and my friends are having so much fun. And it's free!
Wow.
I knew Fortnite was giving PUBG some competition, especially with its console presence, but I had no idea it was that close to beating out PUBG's record.
I knew Fortnite was giving PUBG some competition
You just can't beat Free games in raw numbers.
Economically speaking though, it's not even remotely close.
Too bad PUGSHIT Corp isn't using that dough to fix the game.
I'm glad. Fortnite is a much better developed game. It isn't perfect, but the developer communication and response time to bugs and downtime is unlike any I've seen from such a big company. And honestly bluehole have been the exact opposite and just stinks of the mentality of "max profits, minimum development" with how much the love to announce they've banned hundreds of thousands of cheaters, but still allow people to buy the game and try again. And how they put all their money into marketing and esports.
The only reason I don't play Fortnite is because I'm not a fan of third-person, and the reason I don't play PUBG is because it's garbage. One of these days someone is going to have to fill that gap of "FPS BR" with just a better product. But I'm happy a better game is taking space from PUBG.

It's not a better game though. It might have more development going on (surprise surprise, it's a AAA studio afterall) but it's still a game that was originally built 100% for PvE that is then adapted for PvP with its completely unsuited for PvP gameplay.
I think being on Xbox and PS4 helped boost these numbers a lot compared to PUBG, especially after the backlash of its awful performance on the Xbox.

Even if I don't like third-person I think Fortnite is a way better product than PUBG in tons of other aspects.
Fortnite really shines when you play it with friends.
Gives me a small break from PUBG and I love it.

I don't see anything wrong with PvP in Fortnite...
All that matters really to me in a game if it's fun overall
I'm very happy about this, Fortnite BR really works for a cartoony shooter itch that I've been looking to scratch since I was a kid and Battlefield Heroes was all the rage.
The building spamming is kinda silly but the core gameplay is really fun, and their monetization model is much less cancerous than PUBG's.

I don't know if they've changed weapon handling, but last I played your aim basically didn't mean shit. You could have your crosshair on a target and when you'd fire, your shots would just land somewhere kinda near the crosshair, which would be fine for a game where you're just shooting zombies but not for any moment where your shot isn't landing precisely where you aimed it is a moment where another player will most likely kill you.

Wait it's free?
I thought it was like a zombie game or some shit that cost money, but now has a BR mode

The battle royale mode has been free since they announced it.
It works great on my somewhat aged desktop build and even better is that it's free. Seeing the PUBG reviews I think it's great to have an alternative to whatever PUBG corporation decided to do their game.
Had Fortnite (BR) not been free-to-play I would have probably passed up this game. I'm glad I didn't, as it deserves the praise it gets.
The battle royale mode has been free since they announced it.
Ok guess it didn't cross my mind that a game mode for a game could be free when the base game isn't.
It's kind of ridiculous to compare a free game and a $30 game. PUBG's numbers are absolutely mental for a paid game.

PUBGs monetisation is quite literally the most benign version of the shitty lootbox system as clothing does jack shit in terms of actual gameplay. It's fucking stupid, totally pointless, and about as predatory as other cosmetic lootbox systems. But "cancerous" isn't how I'd describe it, it isn't actively ruining the game. It's just a pain in the ass if you want to look a certain way.
PUBG has bigger issues to deal with that Bluehole don't seem super equipped to deal with and I can only hope that working closer with MS for the XBox version impacts the PC version positively as they get some people who actually know how to develop shooters working on the game rather than trash-tier MMO devs.
Meanwhile Fortnite PvE is dead in the water.. I see all these big updates to the game and I'm like oh boy I wonder what new things will appear in StW, nope just bug fixes vs FortniteBR with all sorts of new toys and stuff. eugghh.

If I remember right the same thing happened with H1Z1. Battle Royale mode got constant updates while the original survival mode was ignored except for them eventually changing the name to disassociate it from the BR mode. Not that I've played it, it just annoys me when a game starts one way, gets a fad spin off and then the original is forgotten by the devs.
Fortnite has a serious problem inherent in its gameplay IMO. When you face one of "those guys", the insta-builders/jumpers; it's one of those video game learning curves that you look at and just think "nah".
When someone kills me in CS:GO with an awesome headshot it makes me want to try and one up them. When someone hits an absurd Hunter leap on me in L4D I want to try and replicate those kinds of jumps.
When someone has sat and practiced using the optimally exact framework and timing to build a 1x1 tower in fortnite as soon as you shoot at them it just makes me want to turn the game off. Fuck those people.
I think there should be a 1-2 second cooldown in between each piece you lay down.

You're aware of the roadmap they JUST put out for PvE, right?

I'd be happy if Paragon wasn't getting shut down because Epic Games are too dumb to realise that Battle-Royale and Free To Play wouldn't be as popular as it is, just go where the money is you stupid cunts, it's fine, it doesn't make you look as bad as other devs or anything.
I've said multiple times too, Fortnite isn't what's doing well, it's Battle Royale Fortnite that's doing well, nobody cared for the base game because it was meh, but I'm just going to end up ranting again about Epic Games being dick weeds and just following money like alot of other developers, which I'm sick of hearing.
I tried playing it but the third person view is so off-putting for me. If they ever implemented a first person mode I'd gladly switch.

They’re reworking the shooting model, I believe they just recently started letting players try out the changes in a test branch.
pubg is too slow and fortnite is too fast and arcadey for me
i just want something in between
It's kind of ridiculous to compare a free game and a $30 game. PUBG's numbers are absolutely mental for a paid game.
Yeah exactly. For a paid game, that number is absurdly impressive, but for a free game, congrats I guess? It's much easier to have a high player count when literally anyone can play your game, especially after H1Z1 and especially PUBG made the Battle Royale scene explode, similar to League of Legends.
Still an impressive number, but comparing it to PUBG (which they did), which costs money, it's not as impressive.
Fortnite is fun, but I honestly much prefer the slower pace of PUBG. Plus I like being able to upgrade my guns with attachments.
I'm still not sure how I feel about the building. On one hand it's cool to protect yourself against snipers, on the other It's annoying trying to fight someone only to have my screen filled with walls and stairs.

I think they're both too fast and arcadey.
I still prefer the ArmA 3 PUBR mod.
You're aware of the roadmap they JUST put out for PvE, right?
All the players are asking for qol improvements since the start of early access like reworking how stamina works and skills and even being able to access your inventory anywhere and a simple vote kick to rid of leechers. At some point they did add a global inventory, but it was fucked as it was causing items to dissppear so they had to remove that.
We also want heroes to be rebalanced as alot of them were useless and paled in comparison to a select few which i see in almost everygame. The outlanders fragment ablity serieous needs to be reworked, its plain awful and useless. All these "major" events adds like 4 heroes with a mix set of skills with the already existing skills and like 4 new guns all tacked together by a awful "questline" that consist of find x and destroy it. And oh lord those these "major" updates adds a fuckload of bugs to the game, more then usual compared to others. There are still active bugs right now from a update like 1 to 2 months ago. I cant see player names or their levels, the weird game freeze lag everyone experiences when someone joins or when the game changes day night cycles.
We never asked for these seasonal events, we wanted actual improvements for the game. Isnt this the entire point of early access?
