I apologise in advance if this is the wrong section, but I couldn't find any other place where this would fit.
I know that there are plenty of settings tutorials on youtube and all that, but all of them are for 16:9 videos.
Thing is, I've got a 1680x1050 monitor, and I'm having trouble finding some good settings for that, while making sure that there are no annoying black bars on the side.
Any help?
1600x900 res?
play games at that res too to ensure best quality

This would be the best advice to follow if you want the sharpest video footage. The game at the time of recording might look a little blurry as you're playing it if your monitor stretches it but yes, this will give sharper and proper widescreen footage
If you don't mind sacrificing at least a little quality to keep your games looking smooth whilst you're playing them you can zoom in to the video in post-production. The only cons to this are slight quality drop and you sacrifice some screen space, usually losing parts of the games HUD.
Since 1600x900 isn't really a video standard, it won't have any improvements over 1280x720 if you're gonna upload it to youtube. I'd just play and record at 1280x720 if I didn't have a 1080p screen.
Thanks for the advice guys, much better now.
