Here is my problem, I have a hard drive will all my music on but wont start up windows. Is there a way I can get the data off of it and save a lot of trouble? I have it in my PC at the moment plugged in as a secondary hard drive.
God speed.
What do you mean won't start up in windows? You prolly just need to assign it a drive letter so what version of windows are you running?
Xp.
I have another hard drive with windows running right now.
I have the other one with my info on it. It doesn't start up, no reason why (was completely full)
One problem at a time. You'll just confuse people otherwise.
On the computer with the HDD in it that isn't showing up, goto control panel > administrative tools and open Computer Management. In the left hand column click Disk Management and then on the right hand side there will be listings for all drives on the system. Most likely the drive will be called Disk 1 but either way just look for the one without a letter next to it. Right click the box and select Change Drive Letter and paths. Now you can assign it whatever letter you want and you'll be good to go.
If the above doesn't work, you can use a little Linux distro called SLAX. It's able to access pretty much any popular file system and I've used it countless times to move/restore/backup data from various drives.
