Then they better make it true to the fucking story and not make shit up as they go. Unless they make more movies like Battleship because that was hilariously bad.
As long as they actually fuckin try instead of just "lol action."
I think the only game style that could effectively be made into a movie are the types of games so obsessed with being "cinematic" and actiony that they lose the interactivity that defines games.
A Deus Ex movie could work, the setting is pretty wide and it's definitely interesting and mature enough for a movie
A Deus Ex movie could work, the setting is pretty wide and it's definitely interesting and mature enough for a movie
too bad any movie adaptation wont be interesting or mature
I don't see why they have hope now. There hasn't been a single successful video game movie, with the exception of the Resident Evil series and that is critically panned out the wazoo.
Fuck off Hollywood eat a dick stay away from ma vidya gaems
Really they just want to try and make a quick cash grab off of the major success they see most video games have nowadays. Hollywood needs to stay the fuck away because they've proven time and time again so far that it's impossible to make a movie adaptation of a video game beyond the levels of mediocrity. [editline]20th July 2013[/editline] And in most cases this is impossible to do. Contrary to popular belief the format of video games and movies are NOT compatible with each other. Just as one simple example since I really don't feel like getting into this, often times the events and story of a video game are meant to be told over a period of days or weeks. Taking that and compressing it down into a 2 or 3 hour film 99% of the time just isn't going to happen. The closest these guys will ever get to making a "video game movie" is coming up with a completely original story that happens to take place in the same universe. [editline]20th July 2013[/editline] Not to mention that most of the time these directors have absolutely no fucking clue on what these video games are about when they try making movies off of them. (As in, they've never actually played these games. So how can anyone expect them to make a good quality movie of said video game?) DOOM would be a pretty great example if not the example.
I disagree mostly. Most novels take place over long periods of time as well and they can be adapted to movies fairly well. Most notable for this being the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit series. The problem is they're afraid to commit to a series of movies based on a game. You seem to be forgetting that movies don't have to always be a one-off and if you're trying to fit such a massive world into a 2-3 hour session you're going to have to make sequels and spin-offs. Video games are a great platform in that they allow character interaction and dialogue in a way that doesn't really work with movies or novels. You get to actually speak with characters and get their opinions on situations rather than attempting to understand what an actor is trying to portray in a film. You really form a relationship with characters where in a film it's much harder to get somebody to like a character when the filmmakers can't create people that look and speak the way their vision does (at least not with a ridiculous amount of work). It's definitely possible to make a video game-movie, but it all depends on the game you're trying to reproduce. Even then it's much easier to build a game off of a movie or book than vice versa.
They need to look at the source material and actually figure out what important details need to be kept or at least slimmed down without sacrificing the intent, rather than just taking the base concept and then slapdashing tons of random shit in there to make it superduper 'awesome' for a blockbuster attempt. Didn't Gabe Newell mention that someone approached him with a Half-Life movie deal and it was so radically changed from the original concept that he practically went, "What the fuck is this? This isn't Half-Life."
Oh just shut the hell up, Hollywood.
At least no one ever takes these seriously.
Movies are too short to make use of a video game story or universe, it'd have to be tv or webseries.
I've always thought that BioShock (1) could be an amazing film if it were done right, but games are very different from films so to adapt them you have to change a lot and yeah, its rarely done well.
Maybe they can remake the Max Payne movie...
too bad any movie adaptation wont be interesting or mature
What a shame.
A Deus Ex movie could work, the setting is pretty wide and it's definitely interesting and mature enough for a movie
No level of maturity is really required to make a movie, just look at grown ups.
No level of maturity is really required to make a movie, just look at grown ups.
The saddest part is it got a sequel
Metal gear movie
Metal gear movie

I find the MGS series the perfect example of entertainment that doesn't need any other kind of adaptation other than it's original format

Hell no. Just no. Why would you even consider that? They would screw it up SOOOOOOO badly and Kojima would get so much shit for it if they let it happen.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metal_Gear_Solid_(film) Live action film confirmed in 2006, but is still in pre-production. Kojima seems to be treading on this very carefully though.
Maybe they can remake the Max Payne movie...
You're a funny guy, Pie. I like you. That's why I'm going to kill you last. Just no, was there ever a good video game movie? I can't think of one. The only semi-watchable was the Prince of Persia and that was because the story of the game isn't very deep so they just made okay adventure movie set in the orient and slapped the name on it.
One day a game to film adaptation will work when the right people get behind the helm. It's just that i very much doubt that it'll be Hollywood behind it when it eventually happens.
