My laptop screen gives a very dim picture, I cannot see what is on the screen

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite P90 laptop that recently for some reason has started giving a picture I cannot seee without shining a torch on the screen. It is not a software issue as an external monitor works for it. I have tried replacing the backlight, the inverter and the screen itself and none of these changes have fixed the problem. I cannot send it back and I do not have a warranty. Thanks for any help you can give, and merry christmas!
Is it on power-saving mode?
I highly doubt it, how would I check?
Try punching it. Worked on my TV.
Tried that, didn't work.
On the little task bar at the bottom, check the plug icon which indicates its power...
Control panel > Energy/Battery options > (change settings...)
Slide the brightness slider all the way up.
I just checked though and even when it's all the way down the screen is still somewhat readable. Maybe some cable to your backlight is broken?
I tried the brightness with the fn settings but I will try that. I will take a look at the backlight cable as well. It could very likely be that. Thanks.
