Looking to buy a new (at least) mediocre PC for gaming, already got some parts, £350 budget
10 replies, posted
So, my computer is really getting dated now and my GPU has packed it in, refusing to work at all. I need a mostly new computer that can run all the new games but not strictly at the highest graphics settings. I've been playing on low settings for years and never had a problem with it so whether its a monster rig or not is not something that concerns me.
£350 seems to be a bit low compared to some of the budgets on this forum, but thankfully there are some components I won't need:
-Keyboard
-Mouse
-Monitor
-DVD drive (I only use Steam and re-buy most classics on it anyway)
-Hard drive
-Speakers
Notes:
-I don't give a crap if the case is pretty or not.
- If you have a particularly interesting suggestion I may go over budget.
-Live in UK
-Unsure about native resolution
-I'm useless at this sort of stuff so please try to make what you're saying understandable for me.
-I've got a friend building it, so thats not an issue.
What's the model number of the monitor?
it should say on the back of it.
You can probably get a used case on ebay for pretty cheap.
I've got a suggestion, tho' I'm gonna need some criticism before I approve it myself.

You can probably go with a lower wattage PSU.
And check if that H61 supports third gen intel cpu's.

According to this site it is. Can I just have one or two other people confirm Tool's suggestion is a good one and I think I'll order the parts, thanks.
I think the suggestion is pretty good.
One of my friends is asking where the "CPU cooler" is? Do I need to get something else?

the CPU linked has this note in it.
Please Note this is a OEM (CPU Only) and a separate Heat Sink & Fan is required and needs to be purchased separately.
could get this cooler, same socket as the CPU.

Or you could get the version with heat sink and fan for the extra like 7-8 euros and it'll have the thermal paste pre-applied so you won't have to worry about doing that yourself, unless you wanted too, in which case go with frosty's suggestion.

That is a low TDP CPU (hence the S at the end of its name). It is designed to use less power not for performance.
Its a pretty bad choice for a gaming cpu.

If he was to get a custom cooler he might as well get something quiet and useful (instead of a intel look-a-like).
