A friend and I have both decided to build new computers and trying to get the best bang for our buck.
My budget is around $1000
Here is the build I've picked out so far: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bidN
I already have a case (GMC R-4 Bulldozer) and power supply (650w)
My friend's budget is around $1500
his build (he already ordered haha): http://pcpartpicker.com/p/bgW1
It needs a bit of work as he let another friend pick it out, and he ordered a shitty CPU and too much RAM.
Any recommendations for either one?
List of questions:
-------------------------------------
Will my 650w PSU be enough?
What kind of cooler should I get?
Friend wants to know if he can run 3 monitors without one of them being mirrored on his new build.
$1000:

With promo, EMCNDHB34, total is 998.58, plus a 20mir
If he already ordered, then why bother?
650w is enough if it's good brand psu, otherwise get a corsair or seasonic.
Hyper 212 is good enough, unless you want more.
He can run three monitors easily. He has a hdmi, dvi, and 2 displayport. So unless one of the monitors has native display port he will have to get an adapter like this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814998051
Since the gpu can only process two channels of dvi, hdmi, or vga he needs the adapter.
Thanks man
Thought I would add in something... Make your friend return that cpu and get a i5 2500K. You can't really overclock the non-K version and OCing is what makes these cpus amazing.

He got an i5 3570K Its the Ivy Bridge equivalent of the 2500k. It can still be overclocked and is actually a better CPU.

Uhh, I think you misread. His friend got the i5 2500. Cotton is right in what he was saying.
Oh his friend, my bad.
Yup, he sent in back and is getting the same one as me, 3570k
Just one question, would a X-Power Pro 600 watt PSU work with my build?
Just one question, would a X-Power Pro 600 watt PSU work with my build?
No, it's a bomb. Get a seasonic or corsair.
Damnit
Like, not work at all, or would it work long enough to find a better PSU?
it would work, he reccomends getting a better brand however e.g. seasonic or corsair. i don't see anything wrong with using your current psu

Yes, it will work. But I do not trust $1000 dollars worth of components on a sub $50 dollar power supply. I tend to spend 15-20% of my build on a quality power supply. But, that's me. If you think you can make it with that power supply, then get it, but I do not recommend it.
Ill start saving right away for an 850w or so.
Then a little further down the line I can throw in another 670 and kick some serious ass.

You don't need that much unless you are planning on keeping that psu for a while. Gtx 670 sli uses AT MAX 425 watts. A 3570k overclocked may use 100. A 650-750 is more than enough. I have a corsair ax650 gold psu. Love it.
Sweet, thanks!
Gonna list a few, choose whichever you want

Not modular, still a great PSU for a great price $89.99 with promo code EMCNCNE45 and another $20 off that from MIR http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703027

Pick one.
I was calling around and a local retail store has a 700 watt coolermaster for 90$
Sounds good to me.
What is the model, don't get ripped off by local stores.
afaik the only 700w cooler masters are the gx series, and they're good
[editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
ah nevermind, just looked it up and they have a couple 700w, these to be exact http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171037 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171054
I'd say if it's the silent pro go for it, otherwise I hear mixed things about the extreme power series
[editline]6th July 2012[/editline]
HOLD UP I'd say it's a no go on either as they only have 2 pci-e connectors, can't sli in the future

I thoroughly support anything that Cooler Master makes. I'm currently using an 750W Cooler Master Silent Pro that I got a couple years ago. Although, it's always good to find out what you're paying for.
