I don't have the financial standings to buy this title for now. But FUCK YES anyways.
As long as they're good, there's 2 horsemen left to make games for :v:
I'm very excited. I hope there's a nice sale so I can pick this title up (Darksiders 1 had many).
OH SHIT! ME WANT!
Hate to shit on anyone's parade but -no video options other than Vsync, resolution, and windowed/fullscreen -FOURTEEN locked-on-disc DLC packs (aka they cut finished content from the game to sell to you piecemeal at a later time) No sale. I'm tired of publishers insulting the intelligence of PC gamers with shoddy ports, disc locked content and none of the barest basics that PC games are expected to have. The DLC is the most offensive part of this, nothing says 'Fuck You' like finding out you're not allowed to play parts of the game that exist on the disc you paid for without paying an additional fee. This is like buying a car, then being told you can't turn on the radio unless you pay the dealer extra. This shit needs to stop.
A stronger form of protest is slamming your foot down and saying "I'm not willing to tolerate this motherfuckery in any shape or form." and ceasing to purchase, play, or promote the game in any way.
This is why, as much as I want to play the new Assassins Creed games, I won't because Ubi are fucking dickholes to PC players.
If you're talking about piracy then that really isn't protesting because it still sends the message that you like and want to play the game. Thus the publisher/dev just thinks you're a petty thief. A stronger form of protest is slamming your foot down and saying "I'm not willing to tolerate this motherfuckery in any shape or form." and ceasing to purchase, play, or promote the game in any way.
I really doubt this would work, considering some loyal fans will still want to play this game, dispite the DLC issues.

The worst thing I've ever seen a game lock away is in Skate 3, the party play mode was "locked away DLC". This was painful to find out because for fucks sake, the Skate 2 had a free party play mode and I have local friends I want to play the fuckin game with. Imagine 10 years from now if you put these games in and the service to download this crap just disappears. You'll never get to play that content ever again.

Darksiders was a FUCKING GOOD GAME. And I do believe it had the same lack of options. Darksiders 2 looks like it will be an even better game. And I am not forced to buy the DLC, and if it's like Saints Row 3 it will just be re-skin DLC I don't care about anyways but that may help THQ stay alive. I also just don't want to see THQ die.
I really hope that this will sell well. THQ is one of the better publishers out there, and if this flops, they're out of the picture.
I am playing as we speak, and the game's really good so far. Like the first Darksiders, but way more RPG elements and whatnot. I couldn't care less about disc-locked content, as long as I can play the game.
-no video options other than Vsync, resolution, and windowed/fullscreen
And here I was hoping they had learned since the first Darksiders, what a bunch of asses.
-FOURTEEN locked-on-disc DLC packs (aka they cut finished content from the game to sell to you piecemeal at a later time)
Even more reason... yay.
Also, I believe the DLCs aren't locked-on-disc. There are folders for them, but I think they're just placeholders at the moment, unless every DLC pack is 2KB large. Contents of one of those DLC folders:
still 1 week for me
It really seems like the only people excited for this game are the people on /v/ which saddens me.
And here I was hoping they had learned since the first Darksiders, what a bunch of asses.
Because the good gameplay and enjoyment of the game was completely ruined by not being able to change texture resolution and anti-aliasing...?
Because the good gameplay and enjoyment of the game was completely ruined by not being able to change texture resolution and anti-aliasing...?
If you don't have that good of a pc, then low fps does ruin the gameplay.
If you don't have that good of a pc, then low fps does ruin the gameplay.
Lower the resolution. If that doesn't help then it's in 99% of the cases safe to say that your PC is just way too old.
Because the good gameplay and enjoyment of the game was completely ruined by not being able to change texture resolution and anti-aliasing...?
Is it so bad that PC players want our basic graphic options back? Texture res and AA should be standard. It's not a big, new thing that only the best of the best developers can make.
It comes out an entire week later in Europe. How fun.
Jagged edges? 0/10 worst game ever
Is it so bad that PC players want our basic graphic options back? Texture res and AA should be standard. It's not a big, new thing that only the best of the best developers can make.
No, I think it's a reasonable complaint but not one I would protest and try to kill a company for. I would complain like fuck. But not buying a game because it doesn't have a lot of advanced graphical options? Ehhh... Not buying because the game is shit, unoptimized as fuck and a straight console port. Yeah, sure. But that's a lot of factors.
Lower the resolution. Companies, even THQ, are rich enough to add some basic options. Texture and model quality should be trivial as all you do is shift mipmap/lod level. Turning on/off specific post processes should be trivial aswell.

I already adressed the other points so I won't repeat myself.
Because the good gameplay and enjoyment of the game was completely ruined by not being able to change texture resolution and anti-aliasing...?
Not just that but with the first Darksiders a lot of broken stuff was never fixed, I myself could never play the game because it thought I had a gamepad connected, none of the fixes ended up working out and I spent quite a few bucks on a unplayable game. Wasn't the only one with this problem either. It's a matter of principles, if they don't bother spending a decent amount of time working on things that should be standard for a PC title like proper video options then why should I encourage such behavior by buying the game anyway?

When it comes to video options, yeah I of course want all the damn options any shit could thing of on the spot, but it's not a gamebreaking thing. If the game is good, then the game is good, how the game looks is completely unrelated to that. If most people that bought the title told the devs straight up rather than complaining on different news sites and forums they don't read, if even know about, then maybe they would do something about it, and if not, you as a consumer of course have the right to not buy the next title since the devs are ignorant. But as far as I'm concerned there wasn't any uproar or horrifying screams of pain because of the lack of advanced graphical options in Darksiders 1. It was more like "Humm, what do we have here? Vsync, full/window mode and resolution? Well... That kinda sucks, which they did something more with that, but whatever" then goes on to play the game and enjoys/dislikes the game on the basis of how the game actually is. [editline]14th August 2012[/editline]
If they keep proving that they don't want to learn from their mistakes and want to keep up the bullshit then I can feel no sympathy for their passing. Welcome to the gaming industry. It's pretty cut-throat.
It's bullshit to ask if the developers could make DLC for the games they make that are fucking awesome on their own so they can generate a larger sum of money so they can survive in the industry?
I'm disappointed in it, it feels very bad compared to the first.

I personally filed the same complaint towards the devs when it came to Darksiders one, apparently most people didn't. This is also the same reason I AM considering buying Dark Souls for the PC when it releases, while it also has limitations (framerate cap, GFWL etc) a LOT of people voiced their disliking about such things. What I'm hoping will happen is that the game sells well enough to convince the publisher to allow the devs to make a proper PC version for their next game, but if it has the same shortcomings there's no excuse. I'm not saying Darksiders 2 is a bad game by any stretch, but if no one tries and do something and protest against bad ports it's just gonna go on and on until we basically HAVE to buy a gamepad because the games don't support keyboards any more.
