• I had a virus and now it's magically gone?

I recently discovered I had a rootkit virus, or something similar on my PC that was blocking me from signing in to my computer (I made like 3 threads if anyone remembers) and I was about to re-install windows.. But today I turned on my PC and it signed in fine! When it signed in though I got like a million windows messages telling me that random applications I've never heard of stopped working. I managed to close them, but there's one that keeps coming back. Something called mobysync.exe keeps trying to open, but it fails so I keep getting messages 'mobysync.exe has stopped responding'. I searched my PC for a mobysync.exe and couldn't find one. That's not the only problem though. My audio does not work. Even though the audio sign on the toolbar says it's working, I checked all the settings and they're good, but I'm still getting no audio from any videos or music. Also windows explorer keeps crashing. I was trying to look at my pictures and documents but it keeps crashing. My PC is considerably fucked up, and I don't know how the virus magically went away, but I've clearly still got something rotten in my PC. I'm just making this thread so I can get advise on what to do because I'm not very good with comptuers. Thanks in advance.
moby? isnt that the crappy internet backup site edit: nm thats mozy
Reinstall windows like you were, you still have it or destroyed your comp and left.
1. CTRL-ALT-DELETE 2. Open second tab. 3. End whatever processes have "mosy" in them. 4. Unplug your internet cable. 5. Do a C:\ drive search. 6. Buy an antivirus program and scan your computer. 7. If you track down the viruses (and delete said viruses!!!), reconnect the internet cable. 8. Be virus-free and crap.
6. Buy an antivirus program and scan your computer.
you dont pay for good AV. good AV is free.
you dont pay for good AV. good AV is free.
This is true
no
Thought not, any recommendations for good free ones? Also why do I have to unplug my internet during this.
Avast! or AVG. except some people on here don't like AVG. (and i bet they're gunna post in this thread)
Here is some info about mobysync.exe: http://www.softwaretipsandtricks.com/dangerous_files/3490-mobysyncexe.html If that doesn't solve your problems, it would be a good idea to reinstall windows.
I use avast, very good. http://www.avast.com/ Anybody that says different I will get your IP Address and track you down, really ... try me...

I think it tried to startup but windows blocked it.
Anybody that says different I will get your IP Address and track you down, really ... try me...
Avast is shit. No really, it's awesome. Turned out I had two trojans a couple of years back when I switched from Mcafee to Avast. About says it all.
Thanks, but in task manager I don't see it under processes. I think it tried to startup but windows blocked it.
Then it might be a good idea to reinstall windows, and get some better antivirus, like avast.
no
It's far better than what you can get for free.

Fuck AVG its horrible and the free version doesn't do Rootkits, Avast is fucking amazing. Hell even Norton Internet Security 2009 is pretty damn good. But for me nothing kicks as much ass as Kaspersky. Rofl people still use Mcaffe?!

NOD32 is great. Replaced Norton with it on the family's machine and noticed a great speed increase and after a week of using it... I noticed how careless my family is when using a computer. Caught about 37 items.

Cool I'm doing an avast scan and it caught 6 rootkits and about 10 trojans. Thanks to whoever suggested that again.
Anybody that says different I will get your IP Address and track you down, really ... try me...
Get out.
Cool I'm doing an avast scan and it caught 6 rootkits and about 10 trojans. Thanks to whoever suggested that again.
its probably better to reformat anyway.
I personally don't use any AV and pretty much never have any issues with it
You probably have a bunch of viruses.
You probably have a bunch of viruses.
Not I am aware of...my computer runs the same as it did when I first reformatted....and I see no weird processes...
