• Bad Framerate in Borderlands, MW2, Oblivion, Mirror's Edge, etc.

Specs: OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 620 Processor (4 CPUs) ~2.6 Ghz Memory: 7168MB RAM GPU: Nvidia 9600 GSO 768mb Monitor Resolution: 1440 x 900 PSU: 550w When I try to play Borderlands it runs fine with all settings on except for shadows, which is really annoying. Shadows go on, I drop down to 13 fps. If I set MW2 to extra quality textures with 4x AA the game lags badly, but it's playable. If I turn on smoke smoothing it gets so bad I have to restart my computer. Mirror's Edge gets around 20 fps average, 35 on a good day. Even Oblivion doesn't run above 20fps on medium. So I guess what I want to know is which part is the problem, the processor or the graphics card. I also have a HD 4850, which only gives me a 5 fps boost. :sigh:
Turn off AA/AF then re run.
Borderlands has no AA, and AF makes no difference. Same for mirror's edge. No AA in MW2 fixes the framerate, but it looks like crap. Oblivion, eh I've given up on that. No settings help.
It still looks fine with no AA/AF
Get a better GPU.

Then your either running on a shit monitor or you just can't tell. [editline]02:51PM[/editline] http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ipjDjoCY0J8
the 9600GSO is basically equivalent to the HD4670. It should run the game fine but since they are both midrange cards don't expect to turn on all the eye candy and get away with it. They should do ok in most games with medium/high settings at that res. You said you have a HD4850 and it only improves by 5fps? The HD4850 is far better than either of those cards so it should have a greater impact on the fps than 5.
