I'd be appalled a couple years ago if this happened, but with the hoops I have to go through to trade low-tier items to my cousin in TF2, I have to say you don't deserve your shit if you manage get scammed in 2015.
[editline]26th June 2015[/editline]
I'm also not suggesting that the hoops are bad. I don't have a problem with it. It's just a lot of precautions.
to be honest I can see why
you can cancel the shit by email
the only way you can lose your steam account is by giving BOTH YOUR STEAM and your email away
They added so much bullshit to the trading system to make it literally impossible to be scammed unless it's by user error.
I'm glad they'll stop catering towards these people now.

guess it's time to disable this now

I'd be willing to bet that people have the same password for all their accounts.
LIKE LOSERS
You aren't cool until you have a million passwords you can't manage or remember like me :>

why?
because it's always been an annoyance, i have never been scammed/hacked and the second statement of the info box doesn't even hold true anymore, i'm not gonna fall for some stupid "hey its me ur brother" scams
just my opinion
Big asterisk: it's always been at their discretion as to whether or not they'll return your stuff.
why?
It's an unnecessary annoyance for many people.
Ok then stop being fucking greedy asswipes and enable trading back in Dota 2. Stop with the bullshit Dota 2 economy manipulation under the guise of "scam protetction" when all you want to do is force people to buy directly from the store or use market because gifting items is too risky and you want to profit.

That is still there for hijacks. It's weird though, considering it should be near fucking impossible to get your account hijacked with the top option + Steam Guard of any form
Hope this article means support will no longer return items for hijacks too because it's mostly just used to dupe
Well its not like they ever did in the first place except if your account got hacked.
We hate the gift restrictions as much as you do. We thought it'd be helpful to explain to you why they exist so that you can have a better view into the challenges surrounding fraud. Throughout this post we'll talk about gifting compendiums to friends, but this applies in general to all items purchased from the store...
Also I think they said that was for them because of credit card fraud or something
[editline]26th June 2015[/editline]
muh merge
Wait, they actually returned items for scams? This is new, back in my day, they didn't.
I don't know why they have to impose that restriction on everyone instead of just new or reasonably new accounts tho.
Like when i buy a 5 dollar item, why does there need to be an trade restriction when i have like over hundreds of games on my 8 year old steam account.
Wait, they actually returned items for scams? This is new, back in my day, they didn't.
What was "your day" because they've been doing it for years.
Now that items are not returned to the victim, I can become a successful scammer (not that I will become one)!

Doubt it, we're at the point where many people, such as myself, just block anyone with a level below 5 or a private profile because they don't want to be assed with the pain in the ass bots are.
What was "your day" because they've been doing it for years.
Forever, pretty much. Until the last year at least. I've always known that if scammed, valve would not return items, it never happened to anyone I know, that they actually ever got their items back.
Phishing, on the other hand, would result in backpack restoration.

Lol bullshit. I read that thing when it came out and I still think it's load of crap and naive idiots buy into it.
Of course you blocked it don't pull the "bad guy" stunt, it was hurting your profits. And so was the fact that most immortals were being sold cheap so people who only wanted them could just get them and not buy the compendium. You greedy sods

This doesn't sound right. I work in a credit card company, and I know that money lost due to credit card fraud is liability of the lender, aka the credit card, and not the merchant i.e. Valve.
So why does Valve want to solve this issue? Out of altruism? To discourage fraudsters and thus prevent frauds? Somehow I find that hard to believe.

Hello, I moderate /r/dota2trade. As far as handling fraud goes on our end for trade scams and other things, gifting is a nightmare. Gifting essentially allows phishers, scammers and a ton of other unsavory sorts to conduct scams with little to no record of anything happening. I'd ask that you please include some sort of gifting history to help us actually track this type of fraud. I realize this isn't how the system was intended to be used but people will use it this with regardless of intent. And as it stands we cannot easily determine gifting scams.

Daniel, you are punishing your legitamite users by imposing rescrtictions on your entire customer base. I get that fraud is prevalent but the solution is not to punish everyone who uses your system, especially with such a poor support system in place.

I don't really see why 95% of community has to suffer because thiefs steal cards - maybe if "morons" cared about their cards a bit better this wouldn't happen. People with 3k+ hours playtime have to suffer because of this? RIDICULOUS... and tbh i am 100% sure there is hidden agenda here, you lose money somehow so we get restricted.

It's nice to see you communicate but let's cut the bullshit here for a minute:
There are many better solutions and businesses across the internet have been using them for years. You are not the only company that has these problems. You just took the easy route waiting until the charge clears which means no additional cost or support for you and only inconvenience for the users.
This is the same as if Adobe would not give you access to their online products until the credit card charge clears. People would rage but somehow with Valve it's fine to punish the customer while the business rakes in more cash and provides even less support.
Why are you so obsessed with the DOTA 2 economy
Take it to the DOTA 2 thread
all of those reasons are complete garbage and you should feel bad
I still remember when i sold my first TF2 hat drop for like 8 random weapons, because surely weapons are cooler than hats right?
I fucking cringed myself to death when i figured out how the game's economy works.

I remember when trading first came out and earbuds were just another hat people were trading around. (at least in the community I played in)
They never returned scammed item anyways, or at least the ones I lost worth over £50 (after many tickets we had).
to be honest I can see why

That nearly happened to me with Origin and facebook, but it was hotmail, which imo is a piece of shit in comparison to gmail.
This is actually to stop item duping.

Iff your account ever gets hijacked you don't have to worry about your items unless they get into your email too.
