id haven't really done anything bad, Rage was just sorta meh.

RAGE didn't suck, it was just overhyped and not ground-breaking whatsoever among other things. Neither did Quake 4, although I think Raven handled that game now that I think about it. The new Doom probably won't compare to the old ones or even Doom 3, especially with Carmack gone now as well (even if he was just the coding guy nowadays, not the concepts guy like Romero was), but I don't think it'll suck. Just be disappointing.
I'd like to see Doom 4, just not be a horror dark scary shooter, but return to mass demon slaughter with small amounts of story rather being shoved down your throat. I kind of like some of the simpler shooters that had more action and less story. Sometimes stories get complicated and it's hard to remember who's who and what's happening vs it's you alone and here's what you're doing.
This is reminiscent of back in the old days when old console games had a bonus disc or a cheat code to activate a beta or a demo of another game.
Cool
It's simple Devs. Bring Old School shooter of Doom back but MORE!? Like, huge open world to explore and blow shit up. Simple upgrade system or some shit. Just keep it fast paced, huge amount of enemies and health packs.
Oh who I'm kidding. It's gonna be filled with cutscenes, npcs talking over the heads up display all day, 2 - 4 weapon system...

I just hope they paid attention to Shadow Warrior. That did killing demons pretty well, especially since you could cut them up with dismemberment tactics. Doom 3's enemies just fizzled out or disintegrated into piles of blood, which in itself was kind of a step down from the gory death-animations of the original Doom/Doom 2 enemies.
Also I hope the monster design is more of a return to form with the colourful yet twisted beasties of the earlier games as opposed to the gritty grey-brown-orange grimdark beasties of Doom 3.
And one more thing, remember Painkiller. Don't just fall back on the dull selections of pistol, machinegun, shotgun, sniper rifle, and have only a few fancy exotic weapons that you barely get ammo for. Make sure you can spray liquid nitrogen to make slippery ice patches (Dark Messiah represent) and/or freeze enemies solid, or pin enemies to the walls with big juicy rivets from a rivet gun, and don't forget that classic BFG. NEVER forget the BFG. And always make sure every weapon is super-fun to use.
Screw Doom 4. Play Brutal Doom if you want New and Improved Doom
am i the only person on the planet who found all of the doom games fun in one way or another?
like, the way i see some of you guys talking makes me think that it's impossible for you to enjoy a new game unless it's exactly like an older title.
[editline]4th April 2014[/editline]
tbh i'd rather have 4 titles that are different than 4 titles that are almost the same thing.

I like Doom 3, it just gets grating after a while with the deliberate darkness being used as part of the gameplay mechanics and repetitive monster closets. I don't mind if Doom 4 does its own thing entirely, so long as it doesn't pretty much play like Call of Duty with Demons (or is shit, but that goes without saying).
Nice try ID, but you're not gonna convince me to pre-order another wolfenstein game after the last one, I'll wait for reviews first.

But the last one was actually good?
Also go watch all the current preview vids, the new one is looking pretty great.

I feel like the only person who really loved the 2009 Wolfenstein game.

I had a blast with Doom 3. I never really understood all the complaints, but it got a little repetitive in some places I guess. The darkness was never really a problem for me, there's a few completely pitch black areas but you usually have something counteracting that. In fact, I can't really recall a time where I died playing that game because I couldn't see what I was fighting. It's not like I have short term memory loss and would lose track of that zombie moving in a straight line towards me while I swapped from my flashlight to my shotgun.
There are some things I prefer in the original Dooms over Doom 3, but they're all good games in my book.
[sp]Except I was never really that crazy about Doom 2.[/sp]
But yeah, there seems to be a lot of that going around. There's always the people that complain when their favorite game tries new things, and the people that complain when the game doesn't try bringing anything new to the table. You just can't please everyone.
But anyway, I'm looking forward to seeing what they do with Doom 4. I will be interesting to see what direction they take with it. I don't think it will really be topping any of the previous titles, but I imagine just like Doom 3 it will be pretty fun and worth a few playthroughs.
The last Wolfenstein games id actually developed on their own were Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny.
RTCW was Co-Developed with Gray Matter, and Wolf2009 was Co-Developed with Raven, both times the other studio was the major Dev, id was probably only there as oversight.

I liked it. But only rented the console version. Never bought the PC version before it was taken off Steam.

Quake 1/2/3?????? At least the originals, not the expansion packs.

Only plus side of the total darkness is that it hides how horribly D3 aged.

I said the "The last Wolfenstein games id made" not "Last games id made"

It looked aged the year it came out when you took everything outside the environments it was made for.

I loved the darkness of Doom 3. Its really the only game that had a mechanic that made you have to make so many decisions about when you needed light and when you didn't, and found it fascinating. It's why I have no interest in BFG, cause that takes away from what I loved about Doom 3.

For the people who rated me dumb, if you kept up with the videogames industry you would know ID is hell right now and I am almost surprised they haven't been shut down yet. According to a few leaks from employees management has been absolute garbage and they haven't got their shit together at all. The team is also full of inexperienced younger developers with really no sense of direction. I remember the guy saying that for Doom 4 they have basically almost nothing to show for years of development hell.
Why are you guys calling it ID? It's id.
I have high hopes for both the new Wolfenstein and another DOOM
New Wolfenstein looks great but for gods sake don't try so hard and fail to make a scary Doom game.
It NEEDS to be about OTT "Rip and tear!" type gameplay again.
Even when ID games are rather meh, they're still fairly decent titles that do the job at being fun. Wolfenstein 2009 had its flaws but ultimately I still enjoyed it.
I feel like the only person who really loved the 2009 Wolfenstein game.
yeah I really don't get all the hate??
felt like it stayed mostly true to rtcw just with more exploration and an experimental mechanic to me
New Wolfenstein and New Doom I love it when classics are coming back.
yeah I really don't get all the hate??

The open world mechanics were wonky, the weapon customization options was awkward and felt like it was more there to limit the number of total weapons rather than to actually enrich it (there were WAY less weapons in Wolfenstein 2009 than in RTCW), the medaillon could've been better exploited, and it's a surprisingly short game compared to RTCW or even Quake 4.
