I've been looking to replace my current laptop with something slightly more powerful and less beat up. My budget is somewhere around 800$ I can go higher if there's something really good that's worth the extra money.
I'd be looking to use it for school purposes but also playing games, so something with a good amount of power behind it would be nice. (I don't need everything 60fps at ultra, just playable at medium settings)

Don't get those Asus G5x / G7x laptops. Cooling is good but they're absolute bricks (the AC adapters are too) and a pain in the ass to do any service on.
The Y40-80 has a sorta bleh screen but it's within your budget. Decently portable and plays games good, with a great 8 hours of web browsing battery life.
The K550JK is $900CAD, but has a good amount more CPU / GPU oomph, probably at the cost of battery life (not much reviews).
With the K550JK what kind of performance would I be looking at for currentish games on medium settings?
What kind of games are you hoping to play?

It'd be nice if I could play Phantom Pain on it, maybe fallout 4 if that's possible (I'm fine with med-low settings). If I'm expecting too much of a laptop I understand

Scroll down to benchmarks
(and for the Y40-80: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-R9-M275.124666.0.html )
Both laptops would run the mentioned games fine, but the ASUS only has a 1366x768 which is a shitty res but would get better frames as a result.
