Parents Computer died, Need help building a new one

So my moms computer from 2002 just blew up (The PSU exploded) and I'm honestly surprised it lasted that long.
Now she wants me to build her a new one. She said she wanted me to build her a computer that can play casual games and do photos and whatnot, common mom stuff.
Is there any rig off this list that would do that? She doesn't want to go over $500 with Windows 7 added. I'm going to et the OEM 64bit Home premium to put in it.
Thanks guys.
I would say for mom stuff the "modest" one EXCEPT it's an Antec power supply. Much like Maxtor, once back when they were a small angry company with something to prove that produced amazing work, then they got the smell of HP/Dell/wal*mart contracts and their quality control went to shit. The cheapest on there without an exploding PSU is 600.... and since your other one exploded... ahh, the ozone-tastic smell of history repeating itself.

what are you on about, there's nothing wrong with Antec's PSUs
Wrong.
See, before you interject about how they saved your life and walked your dog for you; I deal with them (and many other components) in BULK and so does one of my close friends in a separate capacity, and like Maxtor drives, we many times send them back regularly in CASES. As in entire batches gone down the shitter. On a regular basis. Two cases of 20 this week as a matter of fact. You buy one, you're rolling the dice. Their QC is inconsistent and generally not up to par. Simple as.
I have an Antec PSU :ohdear:
by casual games what exactly do you mean?
and there is nothing wrong with Ante'c PSUs, 27X if the first person I have seen complain about them.

Read that then. I think you'll find that a lot of antec's psus are actually pretty awful.
I'd only ever recommend corsair, seasonic or enermax.

What about OCZ?

I've found that list pretty reliable and I personally have had nothing bad to say about Antec's PSUs.

I didn't say all, the higher end antecs are fairly good psus, but I would always pay more cash and get a corsair, seasonic or enermax.
Just remember, a crap psu can literally kill your system, so spending a bit more to ensure you have the best quality psu at that wattage range is a good insurance policy.
Except that list is before Antec expanded, like FoxConn "expanded", IE upped production by lowering QC instead expanding facilities and lines. $$$.
Out of Four example companies that divested themselves into larger markets, MSI, ASUS, Maxtor, Antec, the companies who eventually caught up with demand vs QC rates were ASUS and MSI. 5-6 years ago ASUS was rock solid, 3-4 years ago during heavy expansion buying an ASUS board was like playing Russian roulette; maybe you lucked out and got a solidly manufactured product, maybe you didn't. MSI had a couple of bad years itself just recently and just got their random-sampletastic Mobo section back into line this year. Antec and Maxtor have yet to get their shit together, but since they sell in worldwide corporate/enterprise bulk now, why worry, right?
For fucks sake. Lets help the OP.
Throw in the promo code EMCYVZP54 and it's $10 cheaper.

Wow read the title as parents died, need help build new one.
Corsair, OCZ, Thermaltake, Seasonic, PC Power & Cooling, Cooler Master in some cases, Antec in some cases
I always go by this list when I tell people what PSUs to get.
Is that in any particular order?
I can't believe it died so soon. I have one from 2003 and its in perfect condition.

There isn't a GPU, although you wouldn't want your specs any lower than that. OP's mum should save up a little more for a discreet GPU, even if she only gets a 4350/210

That's what I was thinking. If not, a 4350 is like $40.
wow, title skimmed and read it as "parents died, need help.."
read thread seems I'm not alone. I should really read more slowly.
