Buying an iPhone in America and using it in Europe?

Is it possible to buy an iPhone in America and then use it in Europe? It's around 5 times cheaper in the US than it is here.

But If not, Then you will be locked to AT&T Or the carrier that you choose.

if you want one unlocked you get it directly from apple. that's what i did with mine, i don't know if they sell them like that in the states though because of the exclusivity thing, the uk has iphone on loads of different network.

you can unlock yourself but you have to buy a pretend sim thing from ebay and stuff. i think you have to jailbreak it as well i'm really not sure of the specifics, i did look into but eventually i just bought the phone.

No, the ones I found were around 150 for a 3gs, but it was with a contract. They have to write how much it'll cost for 6 months next to the price in Denmark, so I'm used to seeing the actual price when it's on a contract.
