Alright here's the problem: a few days ago I bought Left 4 Dead from Steam, and now I cant get the download to start. It just stays permanently on 'download starting.' Other things download fine, but only if the Left 4 Dead download isn't active. I've paused and resumed the download many times, restarted steam several times, deleted local content and restarted the download several times, tried changing the download region several times and tried deleting ClientRegistry.blob. Nothing has had any effect. The one really odd thing is that when I delete local content to restart, i get the message saying 'you do not have enough disk space to run this game, please free up some disk space and then try again,' even though I have 240Gb of free space, and never get this message at any other time. Does anyone have any idea what is going on or how I can solve this?
Have you deleted registry.blob?
Exit steam, go to the steam directory, and delete registry.blob
There's no file called that in there, only 'ClientRegistry.blob' which I've already tried deleting twice
Did you try going to steamapps/common and deleting the left 4 dead folder manually? Maybe Steam is confused about what files it needs and which ones not.
When ClientRegistry fails, try deleting all files but Steam.exe and the steamapps folder in your steam folder. (Backup Steam skins/themes as well if you have and want to keep those)
Then run Steam.exe and it will redownload the whole Steam client.
Also, about the disc space, do you have any other partitions or is that 240 GB one the only one?
I have already tried deleting the files in common, although since the download never actually started there was only an empty folder there. And I have another partition with 150Gb of space.
