That's quite a bad exchange imo.
since broadcasts, Blu-Ray and streaming are 4:2:0 anyway
Most of these are also 30fps so I don't see a point for 60Hz

Why don't we just move to DisplayPort? It's supports 4K video already and the next specification coming this year will be bump that up to 8K. Plus the cables can daisy chained so you can run multiple monitors off of a single port and it's compatible with existing HDMI ports.
Gaming.
Sorry I didn't finish. I mean if you're going to watch movies or streams, why even switch to 60Hz? DisplayPort is better than HDMI. Television really do ruin everything.
Gaming.
gaming at 4k is dumb. Higher refresh rates like 120Hz is more important for games than 4k
gaming at 4k is dumb. Higher refresh rates like 120Hz is more important for games than 4k
Depends on the type of games. A higher resolution is always good in strategy games, a higher refresh rate not so much (unless we're talking about Starcraft at a professional level or something).
DisplayPort is better than HDMI. Television really do ruin everything.
Most monitors too don't have displayport.
I don't think I've ever seen a monitor with displayport
gaming at 4k is dumb.
I don't think I've ever seen a monitor with displayport
Using one right now.
4:2:0 is a good compromise
HDMI has the advantage of carrying audio as well as video, but actually it doesn't because I just looked it up and DisplayPort can carry audio too. Never seen that used [editline]21st June 2014[/editline] If that's the case what the fuck, why do we have two competing yet almost identical standards. For fuck's sake
We don't usually see Displayport on TV.
FYI DVI is display port's predecessor. It too has practically unlimited bandwidth, just limited by copper wire. Most monitors still use DVI.
Edit: DisplayPort is royalty free while HDMI has licensing fees, so you can guess why companies in the HDMI pool want to push HDMI. That's the only reason we still have two competing formats even though one is clearly better.
Most monitors too don't have displayport.
Older ones or cheap ones do, but a good one will have DisplayPort. There was a period when DisplayPort was rather new that manufacturers only did DVI/HDMI (That's all my monitor has), but any good modern monitor should do DP/HDMI.
