Hey guys, I'd like to purchase PC parts to build a new computer. I'd like the build to be around $800-1000 USD, hoping to be in the median of there, but I'm not scared to touch $1k if i have to. I've already got a 4850 1gb and a 500 watt coolermaster in this PC that I'll be willing to swap into the new build. But if it's necessary or recommended I am also willing to buy a new PSU/GPU.
Things I have;
Monitor (max resolution 1920x1080)
500w PSU
ATi 4850 1gb
I'd like it future proof for a couple years, maxing Fallout NV at the least, and being able to play arma 2 on high/max. Arma 2 is a hard game to run correctly, but if I can play that game on the new build it's in my ballpark.
I need everything else including the OS (Windows 7 64bit of any kind).
Also, if I need any extra accessories to build it (like arctic silver) but something else, let me know. This is going to be my first full build.
Your help is appreciated, thanks!
Let me know of any more questions.
Here's what I have so far, how does it look? I might want to spend a little more though.

$971 before shipping and stuff. Anyway, will max any game basically at 1680x1080. ARMA 2 will run on very high with good draw distance most likely (horribly unoptomized game) at 45 FPS with what I expect at a decent resolution.

What is your resolution by the way?

Yeah should run ARMA 2 with 45 FPS at a fairly big resolution (a little above 1440x900) on very high, 2 km view, 100% 3D-Resolution (by the way guys what is 3D resolution, if I set it lower than 100% on ARMA 2 it looks crap).

Basically the resolution the 3D view you see is. Since you're running the HUD and viewport at native, having 3D at less stretches it. Which would be fine if it wasn't in such contrast to the crystal sharp HUD. Why there is even an option to change it is beyond me.

Thanks for your help! My resolution is 1080p by the way.

I like the build, everything checks out as far as i can tell. Anyone else have any critiques on it?
Since you have 1080p, don't expect to max out ARMA 2. Most likely you will be on High. I have yet to hear of someone here who can max it at 1080p with anything less than a GTX 480 or 5970.

It's still a very good build for this range of price
Good job mate
:buddy:
Just doing what I do.

Yeah if i can run it on high, I'll be very very very pleased. Thanks for your help :)
Everything came by UPS today, except the case and my keyboard will be here tomorrow. Again, thanks for the help. I'll post pics of the finished thing when I'm done.
Since you play ARMA 2, tell me how it runs (at 1366x768 resolution if you want).
Will do.
I have my computer built now, here's the final specs:
HAF 922
GTX 470
i5 750 2.66qhz quad core
4gb RAM
650w psu
Gigabyte GA-p55-usb3 mobo
1TB Hard drive
I'll try out arma tonight or tomorrow if i don't have the time tonight.
Did you forget standoffs? Just want to be sure haha.
Did you forget standoffs? Just want to be sure haha.
I almost did. Almost did not end well.
I got to playing Arma II OA and I can max it out with 2x AA, haven't tried turning the AA up any higher than that.
Everything is set to very high and the 3D resolution is 1920x1080. Not sure of the exact framerate but it was smooth probably in the 30s-40s.
Also I maxed out Crysis Warhead with 8xqsaa or whatever it's called, and Mafia II with 8x AA. All with smooth framerates.
A very nice build :)
the 470 is a fucking incredible card, have fun.
It so is :)
Maxing out GTA IV with 50 draw distance.
It is so much more aesthetically pleasing on my pc, and it runs at a higher fps than the Xbox version.
yessssssssssss
Thanks, just reminded me to reinstall GTA IV, I have the same card

Just make sure you install the CPU cooler right this time :downs: and don't turn on Prime95. Ever.

Stop rating yourself you tool.
I only rate myself after someone has rated me.
There, I rated you a box. Now you should rate yourself a box, too :downs:

You better rate yourself dumb then.

You're pretty fuckin' weird for rating yourself.
And you're incorrect.

My i5 750 is going up to 95c during extended gaming. I'm going to buy new thermal paste and a new cpu fan, which cooler should I buy?
