• Stuck with a shit laptop; at loss of what to do

(mods, if this is in the wrong part of the hardware and software, please move it; I just checked the rules before posting this) I now have a dell studio 15 that's a piece of shit (graphics too shitty to play any games), and a keyboard that keeps coming apart. I'm 100% sure that I'd have to: a)in order to actually fix it, hire someone who knows their shit that's not Dell to basically take apart my laptop, keep what's good (probably only the HDD, since I hate the graphics so damn much) b)throw this piece of shit out the window, and have to deal with having to (as much as I hate to) share the desktop with my dad again and try to scrounge up enough money out of my savings and checking accounts to buy a decent laptop good enough to play games c)keep this piece of shit and wait until all the keys come out then buy a new laptop Keep in mind I 1)don't have a job; can't get one until I get my driver's license pretty much 2)my dad's already paid $300 just to replace the motherboard 3)never plan to buy a dell again, no matter how "good" the parts are or how good of a deal it is 4)tried using laptopkey.com to try to re-insert keys coming out, they won't stay in no matter how hard I try to put them in right The graphics are intel integrated (which I'm sure is total shit for someone who wants to actually play games occasionally) Please help me, facepunch. this piece of garbage I paid half of for is driving me up a wall and can't take it any longer, and I'm at complete loss of what to do with it now.
get a job
The keys that would be falling of wouldn't be the S, H, I and T keys, would they? :downs: Joking aside, the only thing to really do is just buy a new computer. Laptop parts are not that easily replaceable and with laptops, all you can really get are integrated graphics. Not always Intel, but still. IMO desktops are what you want for gaming. Laptops are okay if you travel alot and like to play games on the go, but laptops generally have a worse tendency to overheat and crap out. ... Well, at least mine did.
Kick it old-skool. Intel GMA is more than enough for Doom, Quake, original Half-Life, Unreal, all those old games. Maybe buy a dirt-cheap external keyboard - I've seen them at Goodwill for ~$5.

In the meantime scrounge though some couch cushions or something for a bit of cash, get a replacement keyboard (http://www.amazon.com/Black-Laptop-Keyboard-Studio-Notebook/dp/B001MW6ZJA), download a service manual and install it yourself.
also if it's GMA and not the old extreme chipset you can get GMAbooster
I'd rate you all bad reading if I could;
1)don't have a job; can't get one until I get my driver's license
I still love how my going on 6 years old Dell Inspiron is sooo much better than the Inspirons and Studios of now... Well in build quality, I know it's terribly outdated, only thing saving it is the dedicated video card it has. Definitely just deal with it for now, get a new keyboard/usb keyboard, and play older games to make the passing of time while you save for a new computer easier.
yeah id like to restate, you dont want a laptop for gaming if youre on a budget.
