I have up to £150, and I live in the UK. I have no real idea about graphics cards, I just know the one i have at the moment isn't that great. So what do you think i should get?
what power supply do you have
what power supply do you have
No idea :( ... how do I find out? Edit: aw damn ok, i'll open my case, be back in a few mins, thanks
Open up your case and it should say it on it.
it'll be on a sticker on the PSU itself we need brand and wattage
It's a Hipro brand, 300W is the max output power, is that what you need? Edit: So, any suggestions? Thanks :)
Well your going to need to new PSU. You can get a decent Antec one for around £50, however this would mean you'd be restricted to a 4870 if you kept your budget at £150. This would struggle at high resolutions such as yours. If you could push your budget to £200 then you should get this PSU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/550W-Antec-Basiq-Plus-Modular-120mm-Fan-ATX12V-version-22-PSU And this GPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/768MB-Palit-GTX-460-3600MHz-GDDR5-GPU-675MHz-Shader-Clock-1350MHz-336-Cores-DVI-D-Sub-HDMI

hmm ok, well i can probably stretch to £200 if it means my PC wont blow up :P. one concern, the picture of that graphics card makes it look huge, will it fit in my PC?
And this GPU: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/768MB-Palit-GTX-460-3600MHz-GDDR5-GPU-675MHz-Shader-Clock-1350MHz-336-Cores-DVI-D-Sub-HDMI
Dude, the 768MB Palit? Really? That's like recommending a greyhound with an amputated leg. [editline]03:39PM[/editline] Was this a pre-built computer? If so, could you give us the model? We could look up what we need to know a bit more easily with one.
...System Manufacturer: Dell Inc. System Model: Inspiron 560 BIOS: Default System BIOS...
Hurp durp, my bad. I need to know a couple of more things, specifically what kind of motherboard it uses, the size of the enclosure, and if you're even able to swap the PSU (Sounds retarded but on some pre-builts the PSU is built into the case. Somewhat of a way of locking someone in after the purchase of a pre-built).
I highly doubt you'll be able to fit a good sized Graphics Card in there, mini towers are almost never built with upgrade compatibility in mind...
so you're saying i should give up? :(
Expansion SLots PCIe x16(1), PCIe x 1(1), PCI(2)
Alright, you're good there... [editline]03:55PM[/editline] I shall continue the research, nonetheless. [editline]03:58PM[/editline] This is your computer, correct?

Yup yup, and I would assume the HDD's are in the tray's in the bottom front? Yeah, with everything hooked up you're not going to be able to fit the form factor of a modern graphics card in there. Sorry, brosef. You can always save up and build a new computer from scratch and feel like a nerd bad-ass later.
Whoah, he may be able to fit one in there if he moves around his hard drives. OP, measure the gap between the front of your case and your HDD bays, then we can decide what you'll be able to fit in there [editline]05:15PM[/editline] That palit 460 is 20cm (about 8.5 inches) long FYI

Go for it then [editline]05:24PM[/editline]
The HDD's most likely stick further out of the back of the HDD cage, and then there's the added length of the SATA cable connection.
That's why I said he should move his HDD's out of the way, so long as he doesn't have more that 3 he'll be fine
I mean, with some twists and re-arrangements you miiiiight be able to fit it by the skin of your nose... Again with that Palit, though? He might as well get a full 460 and flash it (With some help) to a 470.
Again with that Palit, though? He might as well get a full 460 and flash it (With some help) to a 470.
what
i only have 1 HDD and its on the opposite side of the case to the graphics card, so i didnt think that would be a problem
what
BIOS flash the 460 to the equivalent of a 470. [editline]04:30PM[/editline]
i only have 1 HDD and its on the opposite side of the case to the graphics card, so i didnt think that would be a problem
I(graphicscard)(HDD)I We don't want the graphics card to hit the HDD. [editline]04:31PM[/editline] Hurp durp, mah bad, 465's can be flash to 470's.
He doesn't need to bios flash to overclock his card [editline]05:36PM[/editline] Also as he said you don't want this: I(graphicscard)(HDD)I You want this: I (HDD)I I I(graphicscard)I
well ideally i need to know what graphics card im gonna get before i can talk about overclocking it :) im willing to stretch to £200 and that's including the £50 PSU, thanks
He doesn't need to bios flash to overclock his card [editline]05:36PM[/editline] Also as he said you don't want this: I(graphicscard)(HDD)I You want this: I (HDD)I I I(graphicscard)I
Actually, the way his case is configured, he wants this: I(emptyspace...) (HDD)I I(graphics card)(empty)I
I presume he has 3 HDD bays, but I don't know. So long as he has a gap there he'll be fine
Actually, the way his case is configured, he wants this: I(emptyspace...) (HDD)I I(graphics card)(empty)I
thats how it is at the moment, except: I(graphics card)..........I I(emptyspace...) (HDD)I theyres empty space pretty much between the front of the graphics card and the front of the case

[editline]04:56PM[/editline] You could probably get a copy of Mafia II out of 'em as well if you contact EVGA and bitch about it. [editline]04:57PM[/editline]
thats how it is at the moment, except: I(graphics card)..........I I(emptyspace...) If I were you I'd go down to a local electronics store that has this card, or at least a card with the same dimensions in stock and buy it, test it, then return it so you know where you stand before you make any final purchases.
