First to enlighten you: I have legally purchased and downloaded through the Steam client Portal and all other Valve games. I have completed it, and the gameinfo.cfg is working fine. I have downloaded Source SDK through the Steam client, and tested it on other games, and they worked fine. Just like Portal used to do.
I have no idea what has happened, but suddenly just portal can't be selected through the menu.
Here, have a video:

I have re-started my Steam client and checked for updates. What now?
Try reinstall Source SDK
If reinstalling doesn't work, do it the manual way but replace it with the portal fgd and folders, etc. etc.
I re-installed Source SDK and Portal. I forgot to mention that.
And, the manual way? The manual way of re-installing if re-installing isn't possible, or just if it doesn't work in the menu after doing it through the Steam menus?
EDIT: I also sent an e-mail to Steam support and posted on the Steam forums, but Steam support isn't always reliable (They don't respond some times, they give wrong advices and they are clueless half of the times) and in the Steam forums your post can often sink to the bottom in a matter of minutes.
start up any orangebox configuration, go to tools, and options in hammer
For configuration name, select edit, add name it portal
Make sure portal is selected in the configuration, then for game data files, click add, and select portal.fgd
at the bottom, go to the "game executable" bar, and type in: $SteamUserDir\portal
Below that, type: $SteamUserDir\portal\portal
and finally, below that, type: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk_content\portal\mapsrc
click apply
in the tab menu at the top, go to build programs
make sure the configuration is set to portal
in the first box, type in: $SteamUserDir\portal\hl2.exe
in the second box, type in: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vbsp.exe
In the third box, type in: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vvis.exe
in the fourth box, type in: $SteamUserDir\sourcesdk\bin\orangebox\bin\vrad.exe
In the 5th box, type in: $SteamUserDir\portal\portal\maps
click apply, click ok, restart hammer, you're done
Well, uh, Portal is on the list from before, and when I select it all those stuff are there anyway.
When I click apply it changes back to Episode two though for some reason.
I'm only bumping this because I need to fix it badly.
Use the reset game configurations option.
Didn't work unfortunately.
I still need this solved. :frown:
I deleted the entire Steam folder with Steamapps in it + all the games, re-installed 'em... and it still didn't work.
EDIT:
Resolved:
I remembered something. Around a month ago it said "Windows is running in compatibility mode, Steam may preform abnormally", And more then 30 days after that error I remembered what it said and googled it. http://www.edugeek.net/forums/gaming/39417-fix-steam-thinks-its-running-compatibility-mode.html worked. Hooray!
