The blog platform thread - WordPress vs Tumblr vs own blog vs ???

Hi Guys,
I've been running a blog for a few years on wordpress before switching to my own custom system because i got frustrate with the WP admin system. Im now realising that was a mistake.
If you were running a blog and a simple photo gallery, what platform would you go for?
Tumblr has kind of a big built in audience these days tbh. I'd use that
I'd have to say WordPress. Once you have an good overall idea, particularly the templates system, you can build websites with as much or little functionality as you want. A simple blog + galley? Sure you go down the bespoke route and build your own CMS for it, be prepared for bugs and maybe vulnerabilities (depending on your skill and experience). Personally I'd go with WordPress for a blog + gallery website as it'll save me time and also keeps my options open for extending the site with new features that I could add straight away with plugins available for almost everything I need.
I've been running an Art blog on Tumblr for a while and I've had barely any followers or notes, probably because there are way better artists burying me(Or I'm pretty bad).
I'd say use the site with your favorite blog editing tools and your favorite audience. Also Tumblr is great for viewing other peoples content.
One of my favourite WordPress features is custom post types. You can add these via Themes or Plugins. Basically you can define a custom post type (jobs for instance) and it creates a duplicate of the blog post section within the WordPress admin area. So now you can Add, Edit, Delete jobs. You also get the categories functionality, too. Might not be so useful on its own, but once you start adding some custom fields to this post type (such as: Available From, Contact Number, Contact Email, etc) and also create a custom page template for this post type, it really starts taking shape.
I use WordPress for most web development projects, and I have to admire the amount of support it has. There is literally a plugin for everything, and it's pretty easy to develop your own. I personally don't have a taste for blogs, so my experience is written from a general website perspective - but that shouldn't matter with WordPress.
I honestly find Tumblr very confusing, and find it difficult to browse. The response system and such all seems messy, and I never even knew it classed as a blogging system. I always saw it as a more media-focused Twitter.
So far Wordpress has been pretty good for me.

Unless you're a fandom artist, art at our level won't really get much attention.
Hell there's a crap ton of artists that's really good here that don't get much followers and notes
You have a distinct style in your drawings though,I'm sure you'll get some sort of following after you get better and refine your style more
